College Admissions Essay: Marathon Of Words
Marathon of Words Writing is different among certain people. To me, writing is a marathon, slow and painful. I want to procrastinate the start of the race, but race towards the finish to get it over with. As I race towards the finish line I struggle, get distracted, and want to quit, but I know finishing the race is not only a relief but a sense of accomplishment. Unlike running, I like to write at night where my mind is a galaxy, ready to be explored to find the unknown writing skills that can make my papers successful. Like running, writing opens my mind and allows it to wander around the windy back roads. When I write, I write with thought. My thoughts are deep within my pores and as I run, my thoughts perspire on to the page, drop by

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

Everybody has probably experienced writer’s block sometime in their life, and it can be very frustrating. When you do get writer’s block, it makes you distracted because your mind goes off into its own world. The more you get distracted, the harder it is to concentrate. Then whatever it is you have to write ends up taking so long it feels like time itself slows to a stop, and your eyes go blurry from staring at the screen for so long. Seriously, that happened to me writing the first draft of this. It's especially bad when you have to adjust to a new form of writing. For example, first year college writing, papers in a new field of study, longer essays that you aren’t used to, or a long research paper, like the Senior Mastery Project, which should be called the Senior Misery Project. I especially hate writing for a reader who have been overly critical or demanding in the past, or when I remember negative criticism received in the past, even if the reader who criticized my work won’t be reading my writing…

After reading chapters 1 and 2 in the Curious Writer book, I discovered a few things about my writing habits. I tend to write safe, only because I struggle with writing and for a while I did not enjoy it. However, I know the importance of writing so when I need to write something it takes me twice as long as it should because I constantly second guess what I previously had wrote. Following my tendency of writing safe, I also procrastinate. I know I choose to procrastinate with assignments, writing assignments the most, because it feels tortuous to me. The assignments are not enjoyable and I would much rather do something I enjoy like being with friends or being active. Why would I want to do an assignment that takes up hours of my day when…

In the essays ‘Writing and its Rewards’ Richard Marius says that “writing is hard work, and although it may become easier with practice it is seldom easy”. Writing is not an easy task to do. It needs lots of patience and hard work. Good writers writes first draft then review it, if they don’t get satisfied they write it again. Even small piece of work can take large amount of time. Sometimes writers need loneliness so that they can think well. Success is not fixed always, all writers fail sometimes. But they try again and again; they test their writing every time and try to improve it.…

In English 1A I am beginning to understand how to enjoy writing. One fatal flaw I previously had in my writing process was that I tried to write the near final draft the first time, it was a slow and tedious process, that made my despise writing. The tool I used to overcome this is freewriting- being able to just throw out hundreds of words in short amount of time with ease is such a relief when it comes to write an assignment like these. Plenty of my free write words don't ever make into my final paper, but just free writing with no limitations is actually fun. I recall how enjoyable it was to write for the genre paper. The genre paper did it feel like work and I managed to create many great ideas. Freewriting is also useful because the lack…

My goal as a challenged writer is to always improve and show my best work. Though it usually takes quite some time for me to produce my absolute best; I often come across problems that constantly bring me to a halt. One of the difficult things to accomplish in writing is usually overcoming writer’s block. From the moment when I first started writing as a child, my main problem always seemed to be writer’s block. However, over the years I’ve learned to somewhat overcome my problem by just putting down the exact thoughts in my head, on paper. Though, it not always easy or works according to plan, it still allows me to perform to the best of my skills. Overall when writing a paper, my first priority is to get the thoughts from my head into the paper. Even though, it may be difficult whether from grammar choices or writer’s block, in the end writing and finishing my assignment and getting a better grade is something I look to improve with this…

As I near the end of my high school career, I realize that I am not the same person who began 3 years ago as a freshman. While my teachers instilled the fundamental aspects of a well-rounded education, I learned through my own experience that education extends beyond the classroom. Writing has always been a way to express things in a way that is more creative and exploratory than just talking out loud. With words you can paint a picture better that Picasso could ever dream of. With flowing sentences that swiftly swallow the mind in an array of shrouded mystery that boggles most but the unknowing souls that know not what they know but who they know. With a well constructed array of words and of phrases that coherently make sense you can do wonders.…

    Struggle of Writing

Over the years, writing went from being a process to becoming a series of many processes. Brainstorming, drafting, revising are just some of the events that take place in writing. Finding a flow for words can be a greater challenge. Words do not write themselves. Since writing is never an easy process, the first thing I want is a plan. The more disorganized a paper becomes the harder it is to fix. Before I start writing, I read the topic several times to get a complete understanding of what I should be writing. I need to think about the topic before I start writing ideas and quotes down on paper. In order to stimulate my thoughts, I may not start writing until hours later. By doing this, my brain has time to process my thoughts throughout the day; ideas may formulate faster. Webs or outlines become frustrating, so those are usually avoided. I like to pour out all of the words that are on my mind and write them on paper. Without good ideas, an essay will get nowhere. In my writing, I may choose to go one path or many paths. Normally, I choose the path that requires the less amount of effort since time is usually against me. This time is different though. I want to evolve as a writer since writing does not come naturally; it is a process that is learned over time with lots of effort (Knoll 5). It is impossible to know the end product of an essay, but this is why the writing process is a mystery. Regardless of the reason one writes, one must allow their creativity to be explored to allow their writing to develop.…
