PROPOSAL FOR DOCUMENTED RESEARCH ESSAY
For the documented essay i choose two essays ‘Writing and its Rewards’ and ‘How to Write with Style’ from ‘Refining reading and writing: essays strategies for Canadian students. I opt these two particular essays because both of these essays tells me the benefits of writing and gives me ideas that how should I write and how can I improve my writing skills. Because writing skills are very important today, it helps us to build credibility in organizational and personal relationships. Writing helps in spreading new ideas.
In the essays ‘Writing and its Rewards’ Richard Marius says that “writing is hard work, and although it may become easier with practice it is seldom easy”. Writing is not an easy task to do. It needs lots of patience and hard work. Good writers writes first draft then review it, if they don’t get satisfied they write it again. Even small piece of work can take large amount of time. Sometimes writers need loneliness so that they can think well. Success is not fixed always, all writers fail sometimes. But they try again and again; they test their writing every time and try to improve it.
On the other hand, essay ‘How to Write with Style’ tells us that while writing we should make it as simple as we can so that readers can read it without facing any difficulty. We should talk care about the main idea of our writing and should not lose our focus from it throughout writing. Writing should be clear and precise so that readers can understand it and can easily involve themselves in our writing.
There are certain common things about both of these essays writing and its rewards is all about the benefits and advantages of effective writing and on the other hand how to write with style tells us that how should we write in order to make our writing effective. This is like two different sides of the same coin.

William Zinsser said in his book, “On Writing Well”, that there is no great audience to write for; instead authors should write for themselves, for expressing their own emotions, passions, and desires. While this is true to some degree, writers should still keep an audience in mind when writing, especially if that writing is meant to be read by the public. Master the precise skill of writing, then use that skill to express one’s personality to the world through the words on the paper. Some authors believe that working with the usual tone, and developing a style that offers glimpses into the author’s soul, is the best way to write. Other authors believe that keeping writing formal while still engaging the attention of the reader is the best way to spread their work to the world. The purpose of writing is to inform and entertain. To do this, clear and concise prose is needed to deliver essential points with impact and meaning, whilst still sustaining the reader’s attention. To get the point across, the text needs to keep to the topic and remain relevant, avoiding anything that is unnecessary. An incorrect use of technique such as rambling or jargon can obscure the purpose of the text. A concise style of writing uses a direct, simple manner without embellishments, to keep the reader involved and motivated. A reader seeking information will become bored and confused if sentences become to long and wordy. If the writing becomes vague and repetitive, then it becomes ineffective as the meaning gets lost. The diction of grammar and punctuation is also vital to communicate the right meaning.…

Others compare it to arithmetic and science, but anyone who has been to writing class like I was for a year and a half knows that it is not exactly a walk in the park. Unlike arithmetic and the sciences, writing is an art and while others are busy stating facts and manipulating numbers, writing is actually a display of creativity. The writer is often required to come up with new ideas every time they write in order to capture the readers’ attention.…
