College Admissions Essay-Do You Need Anything?
“Do You Need Anything?” When my sister and I were little, we would go to our grandparents’ house every day during the summer and every afternoon during school. Every day was a different adventure for the both of us due to our great imaginations. My sister and I loved pretending to be country music stars with our guitars and cowboy hats. Some days we would be princesses and dance as though we were at a ball, while other days we were serving food in our own play restaurant. No matter what is was that we were playing with or getting into, we never went a day without hearing these words from our Paw, “Do you need anything?” As children we were always engrossed and preoccupied by our own fantasies that we never really fully acknowledged our Paw. We would listen just enough to reply politely with a “No, thank you.” As my sister and I grew into young teenagers, our activities at our grandparents changed from playing with the toys to …show more content…
When someone offered to do something for me, I was thankful, but I also felt guilty to allow them to do so. I had it set in my mind that if I needed anything that I would get it for myself.
In the month proceeding my first ever mission trip, my Paw’s health turned for the worse. He had become bedridden and could not do anything for himself. Every day of that month I went and visited him and found myself asking him the same question he had asked me one thousand times before, “Do you need anything?” I guess he felt the same way I did as a child, and he would respond with a faint “No, thank you. I love you.”
It was in the week leading to the day I was supposed to leave for my mission trip, and I began to debate whether or not I would go or stay home to be with my Paw for his final days. I asked my Paw the day before I had to leave if he needed anything, and knowing that I was thinking about not going, he replied “I need you to go and spread the word and love of God and not worry about

There seems to be an inexhaustible number of reasons that one person might go out of his way to assist another. One of the more interesting of these is to give to soothe one's conscience, or to avoid the guilt that comes with not offering help when you can. Ma Joad used this reason to feed the starving children at the first Hooverville they stayed at. She looked at those kids and tried to avoid giving them food so she could feed her family. Even Uncle Tom had a hard time eating his food with those hungry children looking on. Ma eventually soothed her conscience by giving the kids the dregs of the soup kettle, though she knew she should have given the entire helping to her family, as they had less than enough themselves.…

I have fallen guilty to selfish acts more than I am proud to say. I have underestimated the simplicity of taking a couple seconds out of the day, to act on kindness, towards a complete stranger. With that being said, when I came across a homeless man, leaving Walmart, I had all intentions on doing my first act. As I rolled down the window, to give the man money, I dug through my wallet and realized all I had left was a twenty dollar bill. I looked up to hint I did not have any money, but I could not get myself to tell him no. Along with the sadness and pain you could see in his eyes, there was a sense of hope there as well. I took out the twenty and handed it to him. Never in my life have I been so proud. The warm sensation I got all over, knowing, not only did I shock the man, but I shocked myself, was worth it. No amount of money would compare to the feeling I had right then.…

I am a very athletic person, therefore in my free time my activities include running, playing sports, coaching and being involved with my family. With what little free time I do have I enjoy spending it with my family as they are very important to me. I try to make it a routine to visit with my grandmas to have lunch with them and to drive them around where ever is needed due to the fact that they both cannot drive. I am currently training to run a marathon in May. During softball season, I volunteer with the coaching staff at the Coldwater High School. My greatest satisfaction so far in life, is the fact that I am one of few to have graduated from a college with a degree within my family. I am proud to say that I have paid for me education with my hard work. I hope with the help of Glen Oaks Community College I can obtain a new satisfaction of becoming a nurse. It was a puppy! He had little frown face and with his bright gold fur with the softest paws that I had ever felt.
