As stated by, Susan Manning, The NASW Code of Ethics is intended to serve as a guide to the everyday professional conduct of social workers. It is to ensure to social work professionals use make the adequate choices for clients through the proper ethical procedures. There are resources that I feel will reach a better understanding of the issue involving me being a tax professional and my potential client wanting to fraudulently commit improper tax preparations. Such resources, would involve other code of ethics displayed by the tax administrative office and the code or ethics that are set by each social work profession could be a helpful resource, too. There are specific principles and standards that can be used from the code such as; “commitment to clients, self-determination, inform of consent, privacy and confidentiality and so forth, as stated by, Susan Manning.
The code does adequately guide the service provider through values and ethical principles of initiative codes. Code of ethics set forth values, ethical principles, ethical standards, to which professional aspire, and by which their actions can be judged (Manning, 2003). These codes of ethics ensure that the service provider is guided the appropriate way. The code is adequate for intended use because it set for ethical values, ethical principle and standards that can be generally used. There are certain recommendations that I feel the NASW Code of Ethics should be amended by to help provide more guidance in circumstances by having more information involving the ethics pertaining to personal decision making and how it can help social work professionals learn how to make decisions without getting emotionally involved or attached.

I believe that the NASW code of ethics is an adequate starter guide for new social workers. It covers all of the basic ethical dilemmas that happen more often in the field of human services. I feel that a great deal of the code is common sense and it is helpful to see what is expected of you and you colleagues while on the job. The dilemma is a disagreement with a co-worker over how to approach one of my own client’s dilemma. Let’s say I went to the co-worker and asked their advice on how to handle a problem with a foster family. I felt the child was mistreated in their current foster home and needed to be placed somewhere else. My co-worker feels they should stay put for the time being and I feel they should be moved. There are not many options for this child because of the huge need for foster parents in the area and the child has already been moved around four times. This case presents a very typical situation that people encounter while working in the corporate environment. What is ethical, what is morally correct and what is just right out against the law are the questions that we all face while working in a corporate environment. Some of the ethical questions are governed by the law facing the situation. For example while working in an investment bank you most probably have access to inside information about upcoming deals that one could possibly use for personal monetary gain or you could act as a tippie and possibly share that confidential information with others.
