Classification of Sports Fans Ever since the late 19th century, sports have had a special place in the hearts of many people. Football, basketball, baseball, and other games have brought fans both extreme jubilation and severe heartbreak. These games throughout the years have morphed all kinds of fans into distinct categories. Sports fans can be classified into three groups: diehard fans, bandwagon fans, and casual fans. When it comes to sports, diehard fans are always the easiest ones to spot. These are the fans that wear their team’s colors whether it is game day or not. Diehards will have their vehicles decked out with logos and paint and sometimes might even have a couple of tattoos of their team. Other fans and people going to a game should beware of diehards if they do not want to hear speeches on how “This year will finally be our year!” or “I remember back in 1973 when we beat these guys by three touchdowns….”. Diehard fans should definitely be avoided if their team is not doing all that well. These are the fans that have 20 jerseys in their closet for their “favorite teams”, but you will only see bandwagon fans wearing the jersey of the team that is currently doing the best. Bandwagon fans are into sports for only one reason: entertainment. If a team is winning and is winning in exciting fashion, then bandwagon fans will flock to this one team and crave their games like they would with a new episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” or “Catfish”. If one is not sure if a fan is on their team’s bandwagon or not, then they should ask a simple question about the team or one of its players. If the fan acts like he or she was just asked a question in another language, then it is pretty safe to say that fan is on the
