City Council: Harmful Or Helpful?
Although our city council is considering teenagers or kids should not be allowed out on the streets after ten on school nights and twelve on weekends, My opinion is that they should let them be out at anytime. Their parents could tell them that they should be in by a certain time, and if they don't, that is the parent's decision. They should be smart enough to know that they should not be out on the town too late. The weekends, I reckon they should be allowed to be in the town on the weekends anytime!
First off, their parents could tell them to be home on a certain time, If the parents do not care the city council should not care. The kids should get to pick what time they should come in, but it does not need to be too late, like three o'clock

As Mayor Lenny Curry considers a plan to reserve the consolidation of Duval County and the City of Jacksonville by forming component municipalities, a similar arrangement local governments established prior to the consolidation; it is important to understand the pro and cons of city-county consolidation as well as the motivations that influence the need for consolidated governments. Although metropolitan government can be achieved in a number of ways, reformers have traditionally sought to capture the benefits of regional governance through the consolidation of a county and one or more city governments (Feiock and Carr, 2000, p224). The major policy arguments in support of city-county consolidations are greater efficiency in service delivery,…

    City Council Case

The debate and opinions in this case is different for every person on the council, whether it is standing up for Fran or pushing her out the door. I try to put this situation into context; trying to picture this situation in my city or village. There is quite a bit that this study leaves out, such as population and the city's historic culture, but with that being said, I still have to address the question as it is. The most important issue for the council and the city is trying to determine whether they want to continue on the path they are going, keeping the government solvent and a well-oiled machine, or try to make the government more personable again like the way it apparently…

For instance, the city of North Richland Hills maintains a law ordering that a man less than 17 years old years old must not be out amid the hours of 11:00 pm to 6:00 a.m, Monday through Thursday. Numerous different urban communities are considering doing in like manner. I strongly agree with this approach for a few reasons.…

    City Council Meeting

The city council meeting could have been interesting if it hadn't dragged on for so long. At first I wasn't sure of what was going on because I couldn't find where they were at on the agenda. I finally found my place when they were doing the announcements and presentations. This part of the meeting took the most time, but I guess it was the most important. They gave six different presentations. The first was a proclamation in recognition of Business Appreciation Week. Four people went up on stage to accept the proclamation and the Pres./ CEO gave a speech. Next was the presentation of a certificate in recognition for Costco Wholesale. The received the BRACE award for "Retail Business of the Year." Dr. Min-Lee Cheng then went up to accept a Proclamation in recognition of "Mosquito and Vector Control and West Nile Virus Awareness Week.…

I would create an incentive to get the children interested in coming to school. I would do a weekly raffle. Each day the student attends school; their name would be entered into a raffle. So if they attend all week, it definitely increases the chances in winning the weekly raffle. I can also communicate with the child’s parents to find out what’s going on at home to see what may be contributing to the lateness. Then I would offer help with the problem. For example, if the family doesn’t have an alarm clock then I would assist in getting an alarm clock for the…

Many children under the age of 15 are immature and although age does not define maturity, the lack of life experiences can. Many children think that they are old enough to go out and stay late forgetting that they are still children and have many other years to experience life. A child can sometimes not be as wise as an older person. When they are out with their friends they can do things that could get them into trouble and all because they thought it would be fun. A child under the age of 16 should have a curfew. A curfew can help children learn that sleep is essential, they can learn about responsibility, and it could keep children safe.…

It is unfair and prejudiced that anyone under the age of 16 is not allowed to be in the city between 9pm and 6am unless they are under the effective control of a parent or responsible person over the age of 18. To be honest, it is ridiculous! What is even more ridiculous is that those found breaking it could be fined up to £2,500 or even receive a custodial sentence (I don’t know anyone under the age of 16 with that amount of money!) Ouch!…

Within the United States there exists a law which protects teens nationwide known as the state curfew act. The state curfew act is a law that was put in place to stop teens from going out late at night and getting in trouble. The law makes it illegal for teens to be out past a set time. This law is highly debated upon by many teens and some adults as to whether it is needed or is just an unnecessary law that infringes upon the teenagers right to freedom. Of course the law does exist for a clear purpose which in most cases it fulfills and prevents many casualties and crimes. I have wrote this paper in order to hopefully shed some light on the validity of the law by sharing some statistics such as the crime rates passed certain times as well…

Youth curfew takes to much time away from a lot of Police because it takes a while to handle one person if they break the curfew. Many police reports that teenagers should have a curfew due to all the killing, but it takes almost 1 hour to settle a teenager when they get caught by the police. In the article " Why a Curfew in Oakland is still a Bad idea " by Robert Gammon he states that " In a 2009 report to the city council , OPD reported that detaining a youth for violating curfew could take up to 60 minutes of a police officers time. " Not only it will take 60 minutes to arrest a teenager but it will take several more hours to get it together. In Robert Gammons article " Why a Curfew in Oakland is still Bad idea " Gammon claims " And if the officer decided to arrest the teen, it could take up to several hours to process him or her and then take the youth to Juvenile Hall in San Leandro. " Its a lot of time wasting process if a lot of teenagers is caught at the same time.…

According to parents of young adults, they often feel assured having their kids at home and not out at night. Depending on the time of night when the teen is making their way home will determine the safety they will be in going home. Teens tend to be safer coming home around 11 pm than 2 am. When coming home around 2 am teens and even adults have to worry about drunk drivers. "Dunk drivers create a life-threating hazard as they make their way home each night". Parents believe that having a curfew for teens to depend on will help them if and when they are in trouble and they don't know how to get their self into trouble, all they have to do is gracefully ask help from a parent or a responsible adult or their parent.…

prom, homecoming, etc.), and directly to and from emergencies such as having to drive somebody to the hospital. Without these exceptions teens could be arrested simply for driving their mother to the hospital when she unexpectedly goes into labor three days early. When a child is born unto a family it's parents are to take responsibility for it and it's actions until they turn 18 years of age. So why is it that the city council thinks that its their right to tell these teens when they have to be home? Though there's no handbook for being a parent, most can typically tell weather or not their child is a trouble maker. It's part of the job as a parent to have rules for their son or daughter and each family raises their children differently. If I was a parent and somebody tried to tell me how to raise my son or daughter I would be absolutely furious. I understand and agree that there needs to be a cut down on juvenile crime but a curfew certainly isn't the proper approach. A mandatory curfew wouldn't help eliminate crime, however it would get teens in trouble just for going home from work, and it'll infringe on the rights of parents. If they want to reduce crime I think they should go back to…

Are our young people ready and do they have enough experience to be put behind a wheel? Are having curfews in place a good and reasonable policy? Minors are at an age where they aren’t mature enough to be let out at night, and they are not experienced enough to be driving a vehicle. Most parents believe that it is up to them whether they would allow their children to stay out late at night. After reading an article on the website regarding curfews, one police captain quoted that a vast majority of problems and criminal activity occur because parents do not supervise their children well enough and most of these kids are allowed by parents to stay out late. Even in our small territory, we see teenagers on most nights hanging out in front of stores, socializing at fast food restaurants or theaters, and just riding around in their cars. According to records provided by Public Safety, just being out late, a minor can become a victim of criminal activities.…

I’m not saying that curfews are the worst thing in the world but putting pressure on a teen to make that curfew time can put them in danger. For example, a teen that was with a friend and was supposed to be home at 10pm, he is on his way home and he decides to speed to try and make the curfew time and he gets into an accident. The parents would feel terrible because if he wasn’t speeding to make the curfew it wouldn’t have…
