1.1 The health and safety policies and procedures of the work setting we follow the health and safety act (1974)' we ensure everything in the nursery setting is safe and secure and clean and tidy for all that use the setting.

1. We ensure all staff are given an induction when they start the nursery and given all the appropriate information and training to comply with the health and safety rules. This helps staff be aware of things such as who is the first aider, where the first aid box is kept and who you can contact in a emergency for the children such as parent, grandparent.
2. Ensure all electrical gas equipment conforms to safety standard and are all guarded so children cannot touch them. The windows are always shut at the bottom but if needed to be open they are open from the top. All plug sockets are covered and cupboards are kept locked with key out of site. Safety gates are used so kids cannot escape and to keep them safe.
3. All toys inside and outside are always checked before coming in, anything broken is either chucked away or fixed if it can be repaired. They are cleaned every half term but if used often and mouthed they will be washed daily to stop infection. We use Milton and antibacterial spray on surfaces.
4. We regularly seek up to date information from environmental health department the setting is cleaned on a daily basis and all staff use new aprons and gloves when changing a child. All children learn about
Personal hygiene.

The lines of responsibility and reporting health and safety is that the manager of the setting is responsible as well as the health and safety officer together with all staff to ensure safety. The manager and officer have the ultimate responsibility. But if anyone has anything to report they can do to the manager or health and safety officer and the issue will either be monitored for risk, resolved or fault reported and item replaced.     To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day.…
