Child And Youth Care Worker: Case Study
There are nine different needs that are deemed necessary to becoming effective in your profession as a Child and Youth Care Worker. These needs will influence your work with children and youth and allow you to “recognize their needs, to accept them, and become aware of how these needs influence the quality of your interactions with others” (Corey & Corey, 2007). The majority of these needs are met through interaction and communication with your clients on a professional and compassionate level. In order to build a professional rapport with clients there are various tools one must utilize and exhibit that will fundamentally assist you in becoming an affective and professional helper to alter the lives of others.

“Most of us have some need for self-control and also the need to control others at times” (Corey & Corey 2007). Control over our lives is essential to preparation and scheduling, self-control is fundamental for us to function effectively. Needing control over your own life is understandable, but when your control stems out and you feel the need to control others, this can be a matter of concern. If you have the need to control others, this might pose as a challenge because not everyone has the same values, beliefs, and thought process. The need for self-control applies to me greatly, I always have to have my own life in order and make my own choices. Being told what to do can be very challenging for me because I feel the need to make my own decisions constantly. However, I cannot relate to the need of controlling others. In social situations I am never the one to make the decisions or control the situation, this is something I need to work on, so that I can have a voice and more control over my own …show more content…
I’ve encountered one person in my life that I can truthfully say has impacted my life greatly. I worked with this individual for only a short time, but she was the only person to really reach out and make me feel valued and appreciated. My goal is to make children feel valued, appreciated, and confident. One thing that stood out to be about this individual was the endless support and empathy from them, not only did she sympathize for me, but she also guided me, and gave me an extra push to show me that life is so much more. I would hope that a child I will be working with would be able to think of me the same way, and I can impact someone on such a personal and professional
