Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people, and adults. (1.1)
Communication is the passing of information from one person to another in forms such as speech, sign language, writing, body language, tone of voice, eye contact and facial expressions.
In order to be able to communicate effectively, we must be able to listen attentively, using empathy to understand the speaker’s experiences, feelings and point of view. In order to develop positive relationships with children, young people, and adults we must demonstrate the ability to be sympathetic, friendly and approachable. Children need to feel relaxed, safe, and confident and be given the opportunity to communicate themselves.

For children, this can lead to them feeling anxious, insecure and showing a lack of respect towards those around them.

Explain the principles of relationship building with children, young people, and adults.
Positive relationships between children and adults can be developed at any time, once they are comfortable with each other. If others are comfortable in our company, then they will be more likely to communicate effectively.
It is important to build positive relationships with the children in our care and we should find different ways to develop these relationships.
There are seven key factors which contribute to the development of effective relationships with children and adults. Good relationships are built when the following are taken into consideration;
1. Effective communication – The main way to build positive relationships with children and young people, is through the ability to communicate effectively. Body language, facial expressions, and gestures are vital in effective communication. Politeness and respect also offer a good foundation for positive relationships, especially during a first meeting. This also includes active listening, as communication is a reciprocal
