However, when a person is struggling with depression, they may not show signs that tell others they are feeling badly. There are many risk factors when it comes to suicide. Depression and other mental disorders are the main risk factors for suicide. More than 90 percent of people who committed had those risk factors. Other risk factors for suicide would be family history of mental disorder, substance abuse, and previous suicide attempts. Family violence, including physical or sexual abuse is another risk factor. Suicidal behavior is not a normal response to stress. Many people could experience these risk factors, but never get to the point where they are suicidal, or even think about suicide. People with parasuicidal behavior do not necessarily WANT to commit suicide. They truly have no intent to kill themselves. It just becomes a coping mechanism to deal with high emotions. But, it is dangerous due to risk of serious injury. People who make suicidal attempts are actually attempting to kill themselves. They don’t believe that they belong in this world anymore and want to take their life. People who get this point have had been dealing with depression for some years now and they don’t know what to do anymore.
