Character Change In Macbeth
“Inside each of us there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win” (Eric Burdon). In the beginning Macbeth is seen as a loyal soldier but is corrupted when he hears the witches prophecy, this causes Macbeth to become an ambitious and ruthless king. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare uses soliloquies, asides, and metaphors to show Macbeth's character change. After the murder of the King Macbeth begins his walk down an evil path that he won't be able to escape from. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare uses many techniques to show the character change of Macbeth, one of the many techniques are asides. “ Two truths are told as happy prologues to the swelling act of the imperial them” (127-130). “There the grown serpent lies. The worm that’s fled hath nature that in time will venom breed…” (30- 32). Macbeth is glad that Banquo is dead, but his son Fleance luckily escaped. Macbeth calls Fleance a worm because Macbeth thinks that there's a chance that Fleance will avenge his father's death. “ I have lived long enough. My way of life. Is fall' n into the sere, the yellow leaf” (24-25). In some way Macbeth has realized that what he has done to become king was a terrible mistake. He knows that his reign of terror and his life are almost over. “To the last syllable of recorded time, all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death” (21-22). Instead of mourning the death of Lady Macbeth, Macbeth reflects on the shortness of life. Most people would be upset but no, not Macbeth. It's as if he doesn't care that she's
