Character Analysis Of Katniss Everdeen In 'The Hunger Games'
The main character in The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen, is a strong and independent teenager who has to conquer many gruesome challenges. The challenges she faces not only require being strong physically, but also emotionally. I personally can’t even imagine living in Katniss’s society, where being in horrible and life-threatening situations is very common. Fortunately, Katniss has the skills and personality to overcome these obstacles. Throughout the story, there are three specific situations that are the most gruesome and challenging to Katniss.
In the very beginning of the story, Katniss is already dealing with a challenge; a challenge she had been dealing with for years. Ever since her father died in the mining accident, Katniss had to provide food for her mother and little sister Prim, even while she was still grieving. Katniss always made sure that her family would never be as starving as they were during the terribly cold winter after her father’s death, especially Prim. At first, I had thought so too. Katniss was forced to fight in an arena and try not to get killed by the other tributes or by the crazy obstacles that the gamemakers made. Although, after reading The Hunger Games twice, I realized that Katniss was smart and already had the skills from hunting at home, to overcome the crazy obstacles in the arena. The challenging part for Katniss, was trying to make alliances with the other tributes and deciding on who she could trust. For example, Katniss had made an alliance with District 11 tribute Rue, who reminded Katniss of her sister Prim. When Rue died, it really affected Katniss and could have set her back. Peeta Mellark was also a big part of Katniss’s challenge in the Hunger Games, because she was always unsure if she could trust him or
