Change Yourself to Change Your World
CHANGE YOURSELF, TO CHANGE YOUR WORLD Often times I hear people say “if I am in his position or status, I will do better and change things for good”. This statement is made when people feel that their boss (es), employers, leaders and government officials are not performing or living up to expectation. They expect so much from these people and get less than they thought or envisaged. There is this axiom that says “you cannot give or offer something that you don’t have”. The gross indiscipline, misconduct, under-development or deficiency of any Nation or sphere of human endeavour is a sum total or directly proportional to the gross indiscipline, misconduct, under-development and deficiency of respective individuals in the Nation or sphere of human endeavour. People want to change things for good even when they are not changed themselves. How can you change, influence, or make impact in your world when you are not changed, influenced and impacted on your inside? Everybody is crying for change, transformation and development when they are not changed, transformed and developed. How do you expect your leaders and bosses to help you and solve your problems when they themselves cannot help themselves and even solve their personal problems? A good reason is that majority of them have not developed the full mind potential to function effectively in that capacity. If you truly, sincerely, intentionally and passionately want to change and influence your world, you must truly, sincerely, intentionally and passionately desire to change your complete state (i.e. body, spirit and soul). How can you bring about growth and development to your world or the Nation, when you have not/ are not bringing about growth and development to yourself? The attitude and character you display or portray now will be synonymous with your character and attitude when you finally become a leader in any capacity or field (i.e., in Academics, Politics, Business, Ministry, Sports,

“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do” (Gandhi). The quote above explains that if one seeks social or personal change, both aspects must change together or not at all; they have a symbiotic relationship with one another. Change must be a cause and effect reaction, meaning that if a change is made, others will see the change and do the same. A thematic example of this would be the film Pleasantville. In the film, the society is one commonly described as utopian or perfection but in reality…

I’ve always heard that it only takes one person to make a difference in this world, and that one person is going to be me. I matter in this world because, I’m a loving wife, and wonderful mother to my two children. Although I’m not a wealthy person, I can describe myself as an ambitious, generous, vivacious and very eager to learn woman. I have a few goals in life, and one was to teach my children that just because they don’t have money, it doesn’t mean they don’t have wealth. Being born in the country or the city doesn’t make people what or who they are, but how they are raised with morals and values makes the person who they become. Everyone in the world matters, not because of what they do, but by simply who they are.…

The Kiwanis International Club held a survey where they asked when is it important to help out others? 75% of people believe in helping others when it will have an important impact on not only their lives but on other people's lives. When asked what type of community service makes the biggest difference, ⅔ answered hands on activities such as donating supplies, volunteering with a local service club, or participating in local community events have a bigger influence than just giving out money (Most Americans Believe One Can Can Change the World). Today, because of the sacrifices and achievements of many strong leaders, others now have their independence from countries, they have the right to vote, improved working conditions, or just an opportunity to be a better person. According to the survey on volunteerism done by the Kiwanis International Club, 86% of Americans believe one person can make a change (“Most Americans Believe One Can Change the World”). If this many people believe that humans are capable of making a change in the world, then the only thing stopping us from improving the world is us. As a quote by an anonymous person states “If you’re searching for that one person who will change your life...take a look in the mirror”; humans are the future of the world, and to live prosperous lives, we should be willing to help improve not only our living conditions, but to not be selfish and lend a helping hand to others in need as well. What the world is molded into is because of us, and as John F. Kennedy once said, “Making a positive difference in our own life or the lives of others, organizations, and the world at large starts with a healthy mind, body, and spirit, and a change of daily thoughts, communications, and actions of our own self…

Everywhere we step into we bring our ideas and knowledge, we have the ability to create a significant change among the people that we affiliate with. There might have been countless times where we might have been given the power to create change but have unfortunately misused that power and wasted it. Having such power can be overwhelming however there has always been the time where we gather the courage to stand up and lead, open our mouths and pour out the knowledge that we have accumulated through the years. Having the courage can sometimes be the solution to some conflicts, because we might be the only ones with the knowledge for a solution and our cowardness can lead to a decline in production. During my high school career, I was part…

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Being an American is being free and open for change. Change is almost like an occurring thing. Sometimes I wish that maybe instead of making change, we could understand what we have first, almost take recognition. Then suddenly, we muster up something in a moment and then we feel it's not good enough so we build onto something new. Why can’t we understand what we have, rather than trying to make something new?…

Since the beginning of time, humans have always depended on leadership for survival. Citizens follow governments, armies need generals to lead them into battle, and businesses need executive officers. However, just because someone leads others does not mean that he possesses the correct qualities for being a true leader. In order to understand what qualifies as a good leader, one must first define the qualities needed in good leadership. Often times in literature, leaders come across as heroic, but just saving people from an oncoming danger does not truly make on a good leader. On the contrary, the individual and heroic performances of a leader accomplish almost nothing if a leader does not put the needs of his people at the forefront of his endeavors. In light of this, an excellent leader possesses the ability to bring out the best of his people, and the ability to create a positive atmosphere.…
