1. Key parts of Muhammad’s life
• Early Life: Muhammad was born to a family of merchants in Mecca. Both parents died when he was very young. He married a wealthy widow and became a good merchant. Due to his travels he was familiar with paganism, Christianity, and Judaism.
• Revelations: At the age of 40 he had visions given to him by Allah while he was in a cave called Mt. Hira. These visions given to him through the archangel Gabriel instructed him to share his beliefs of Allah and his religion to others. Allah told him that idolatry and the recognition of other gods led to wickedness, and that Allah would bring judgment upon the people of earth. The Quran is a record of Muhammad’s revelations and the holy book of Islam (650 CE). The hadith are traditions of Muhammad’s life. Muhammad believed he was the seal of the prophets and recognized the authority of the Christian and Jewish faiths.

Once Muhammad came to Yathrib, they accepted his religion and made him the ruler. Yathrib soon “became known as Madinat al-Nabi, “the city of the prophet,” or Madinah.” (pg 273). Yathrib was called Madinah because it meant “the city of the prophet” and Muhammad was known as “the prophet of Islam”. In A.D. 624 Muhammad created the Madinah Compact. The Madinah Compact “laid the foundation of an Islamic state.” (pg 273). In the Madinah Compact, it really specified how the Muslims were supposed to live. “He decreed that all Muslims were to place loyalty to the Islamic community above loyalty to their tribe.” (pg 273). By writing the Madinah Compact, Muhammad made everyone be loyal to him instead of being loyal to their sheikh and their tribe. This affected the people of Madinah greatly. “Since Muhammad created the religion of Islam, he took religious power. He also took military power, political power, legal power, and made himself chief judge, which made him a totalitarian.” (notes). By writing…

Muhammad, an orphan from the merchant class of Mecca, was raised by his grandfather and uncle. He married a wealthy local widow and businesswoman named Khadija. About 610, Muhammad experienced the first of a number of revelations that he believed came from the archangel Gabriel. In these revelations he was told that there is only one God, called "Allah" in Arabic. Although the peoples of the Arabian peninsula had already been exposed to monotheism through Jewish traders and Arabic converts to Christianity, Muhammad's fervent proclamation of the existence of only one god angered the merchants of Mecca, who anticipated decreased profits from pilgrimages if the revelations of Muhammad were widely accepted. In 622, realizing that his life was in danger, Muhammad and his followers fled to the city of Yathrib (later called Medina), about 200 miles northwest of Mecca. Here Muhammad was allowed to freely exercise his role as prophet of the new faith, and the numbers of believers in the new religion grew. The flight of Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, called the hijrah,…

Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) the Prophet of Islam, was born in 571* A.D. at Makkah. He belonged to the noble family of Quraish. Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is the last of the prophets. The Quraish used to worship idols and did not believe in One God. Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked the Quraish not to worship their false gods. He told them that he was Prophet of God and asked them to worship the One and the only true God. Most of them refused to accept Islam. They thought that by preaching Islam he was against their gods and their ancestors. They opposed this new faith and their bitter opposition caused the Prophet (peace be upon him) much agony and a lot of trouble. Their opposition to Islam became so fierce and terrible that he had to ask the believers to migrate to Medina. In 622 A.D. the prophet (peace be upon him) himself accompanied by his faithful friend Hazrat Abu Bakr, migrated to Medina. This event is known in history as the "Hijra". In…

Muhammad was born into a respectable monotheistic family of merchants in Makkah but lost both of his parents at a young age. His grandfather and uncle raised him and provided him with somewhat of an education. By the age of 30, he had established himself as a merchant in the Arabian society, where he dealt with peoples of different religions and cultural traditions. It wasn’t until he was 40 years old that he underwent a profound spiritual experience that transformed his life into one of the greatest and most influential religious leaders in history. This spiritual awakening left Muhammad with the convictions that in the entire world there is only one deity, Allah (God), He was the ruler of the universe, that idolatry and the recognition of other gods amounted to wickedness, and that Allah would soon bring his judgment unto this world.
