Cda Autobiography
My name in April Bonilla and I was born on December 20, 1977 which makes me 34 years old. I was born into a single parent family and was raised by my Mother. Aside from myself, my Mother also gave birth to my three younger brothers. Growing up I did my best to help take care of my brothers which also motivated me to get a job at a young age. I began to babysit for my neighbors and family friends so I could contribute money to my family. Watching children was enjoyable and interesting; therefore, I chose to take a child development course while attending High School. Unfortunately, after High School I needed to work full time so I had to put my dream of going to college on hold. Although I had a strong desire to get the credentials to work with children, life took me down a different path. I started working fulltime in a trucking company and during that time I took a test to work for a communications company. Shortly after I started working for Verizon in the sales service department. During holiday co- workers would bring their children in and somehow I would end up sitting playing and entertaining the children. I always enjoyed spending time with them. In 2003 I decided two leave Verizon so I could pursue my dream and work with children. By January 2004, I opened my own childcare center with a friend. A great deal of work was put into the center. While setting the child care center up, I was also planning my wedding. Although it was hard work everything worked out. My wedding was in April of 2004 and as soon as I returned from my honeymoon, the daycare was officially open for business. Now I am a proud mother of two great boys, Gavin who is 7 and Landon who is 3, and I also have a successful business that has been open for 8 years, it was the best of both

I believe that early education is very important for children and I take a great pride in the work I do every day. With my art education and ability to be very creative, I am able to use it in my classroom and create artistic wall displays, bulletin boards, interesting art projects, and colorful teaching tools for the children in our program. Every day we provide them with paint , paintbrushes ,crayons, scissors ,glues, colorful papers and many more craft supplies and they go to create their own very special piece of art. This is one of many activities in the classroom that helps them to develop variety of different skills they need for everyday life and I get to be part of it. I understand that as their teacher I am a big influence on them and every moment of the time they spend in the school and I provide them with loving and positive environment. Every day, while they are away from their families, they get to spend a day filled with learning carefully planned fun activities, and I am very happy to be a part of that. I enjoyed being with children so much that my first “real-world” paying job was at a summer camp. Between volunteering at the church Vacation Bible School and working at the summer camp I realized I have a great connection with children and can help make a difference in their lives and that is what I seek to do. I have since been employed at a few different childcare facilities along with a music store and book store but no matter what I always found myself returning to working in either a childcare or school…

This was a time when my oldest niece was born and was diagnosed with a mild case of down syndrome. When she was an infant, my mother and I would babysit her and I would care for her as if I was a mother figure in her life. When I transitioned into high school, I found out exactly which career path I wanted to take. I want to go into neonatal nursing because I am very fond of infants. I feel as though I have experience with children who are born with defects…

After I graduated from high school May of 2010, I took some time to think about the career path that I wanted to follow. A couple months after I graduated from high school, I applied for a job at the Early Explorers Head Start in Anamoose, ND. I did not get the job that I applied for but that was okay because the next day I got a call from the School District offering me another job. They offered me the job of the assistant substitute teacher in the Early Explorers classroom. I accepted the job offer and started working in September of 2010. I loved the job so much. There was also something special in the job for me, my baby brother was also in that class. My experiences have been very rewarding so far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. It truly does mean so much to me knowing that I have helped those children learn so many new things in life that will help them with their social and cognitive development.…
