In Bonnie Tsui’s, Choose Your Own Identity, she discusses the flexibility that lays within racial identity. In Tsui’s essays she states that even though our race has such a huge roll in the way we make our political and societal decisions, racial identity has become fluid. In her mind, we are making a come back and prioritizing the importance of who we identify as, rather than focusing on what we are. In Tsui’s own words, “In a strange way, the renewed fluidity of racial identity is a homecoming of sorts, to a time before race - and racism - was institutionalized.” (Tsui, 2)…

“Sometimes quiet is violent,” those words ring into the teeming stadium as thousands of zealous fans sing along. One of those fans happen to be myself, standing in the middle of the pit of people. Two shadowy silhouettes exist on stage; one on the piano and the other on the drums. Then suddenly the lights flash revealing an immense sign labeled Twenty One Pilots. Tyler Joseph on the piano, and Josh Dunn on the drums. Tyler only concentrates on the piano, barely letting the singing crowd impede his focus. Josh is coated in a thick layer of sweat, as he gently strikes the cymbals, just enough to give an ominous feel. As the middle of their song, “Car Radio” approaches, Josh asks Tyler to sit in a chair. Although we want to cheer, conversely, we watch in anticipation, as Tyler obscured by a white sheet, just barely covering his scrawny body. Abruptly, Josh removes the sheet, and Tyler is gone.…

Li-Young Lee’s, “The Gift” unquestionably communicates several ideas, some rather direct, and others buried within the rhetoric and composition of the poem. Although the meaning (of the poem) may be left to interpretation, one of the most prominent concepts of the story, in my belief, is the gift of love and consequent tradition of offering it to loved ones. In the beginning of the poem, the narrator describes his father comforting him in the painful situation of removing a metal splinter from his hand: “My father recited a story in a low voice. I watched his lovely face and not the blade.” The father’s calm and affectionate demeanor can be further attested to in the second stanza, “...I recall his hands, two measures of tenderness, he laid…

Browsing through the Internet and searching up my name, I found out a couple things about myself, regarding articles and where I was able to find information about myself. Since I use both my full name, Pachia Xiong, and my nickname, Chia Xiong, on social media, it was harder to find myself within the search engines. When I searched the web using my full name, it was really hard to look for an article about me or a picture because, throughout my whole life I didn't do much because of the expectations my parents' set and the "wake up - go to school - come home - do homework - sleep" routine. We were never in sports and clubs. So, I'm actually really lucky that I found a few articles.…
