I chose this book because (respond in at least 2 sentences): I am half Cuban and I don’t know much about Cuba. I thought it would be fun to read about Cuban history from a different perspective.

Beginning Diffusion Lucía doesn’t seem to be committed to anything since she’s more focused on other things for example taking care of her brother. Another example would be her worries at school and people in it.

She moved away from her home We learn of her internal conflict over her studies in algebra and her crushed being crushed down by more internal conflicts. She had to deal with fully learning English while being away from her parents who could comfort and help her study. That conflict undealt with can change a person and its best to work with what you have instead of ponder on what you don’t.

She had to adapt to her new life virtually alone We learn that she was somewhat dependent on her family and the little she had left she of course didn’t want to lose. She faces many new obstacles more or less alone, yet still she deals with them actively. The author is trying to encourage the reader to continue even if difficult obstacles arise.
