Case Study Of A Civil Engineer At Texas A & M.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Bob Appleton, a civil engineer at Texas A&M. The questions I asked him that taught me the most about civil engineering were “What is your daily job as a civil engineer?” and “What are the personal qualities you need to be a civil engineer? For example, motivation, etc.” Mr. Appleton said as a civil engineer, your daily job is to take data that surveyors collected in the field, either on the the ground or by aerial photographs (which he explained as being similar to images seen on Google Earth). Then you use the data to create drawings and designs for many different structures such as buildings, roads, bridges, ports, etc. Mr. Appleton said that to be a civil engineer you need to possess the qualities of integrity

Civil Engineers have to know how to design and assemble shapes to construct buildings, dams, bridges, tunnels, highway systems. Civil Engineer must understand and know how to compute such quantities as lengths, areas, volumes, centroids, moments of inertia, and curvatures of a building. Civil Engineers also help build my most favorite place in the world, they help with the designing of soccer fields. The whole field is 120 by 75 yards, the midfield has to be right in the middle of the field, they also have to measure the size of the keeper box which is 6 yards by 20 yards and the penalty box is 18 yards by 40 yards, they also have to help construct the goals that is the length of 8 yards, and last the corners of the field have to be exactly 90 degrees with a quarter circle on the inside of the field so we know where to take the corner kick…

I have done extensive research on schools that I think will provide me with a more than adequate education, and The University of Texas at Austin is an institution that has not only stood out, but has continued to impress. I do not see myself attending any other school, The University of Texas at Austin has shown to have a good International Relations program and a campus that provides exposure to the real world, but also unifies people from all races, languages, and religions. It would be an honor for myself to say that I attend the University of Texas at Austin. If anything, it is my…

The term ‘engineer’ has many different meanings and, depending on whom you ask, they will give you their own interpretation of an engineer. As the term is so commonly used on a daily basis, its true meaning has become somewhat distanced and diluted from the definitions provided by the professional bodies and also the literate bodies (dictionary authors). But even if the definitions from the professional bodies are examined, they still differ from one to the next. Even the UK based bodies have a difference, let alone comparing the rest of the world’s. Several key factors run true though for each and they are explained in the following pages.…

In my quest for deciding what course to pursue, I also did a 6-week internship with Larsen & Toubro limited, at their under-construction ICICI Bank building (Composite Structure). Here, I was thoroughly exposed and actively involved in the various stages of construction, i.e. Planning, Field Execution, Safety Measures and Quality Control. This gave me a very good and generic idea on Civil Engineering projects, right from when it is conceived to the finishing stages.…

Many people in my life have also suggested that I pursue engineering with my good math and science skills. Pursuing engineering was without a doubt the easiest and hardest decision I have ever made. This will be my third year at Missouri University of Science and Technology and I can still safely say this is the right fit for my personal needs for self-growth. I am always challenged and required to think in a vastly different way than I have ever been used to. My intended major now was mechanical engineering which is still very interesting to me, but I discovered the many intricacies of civil engineering and decided that I need to pursue it with much haste and tenacity. Civil engineers are a vital part to society as they design so many various structures like roads building plans and even recreational areas. Now, the only way to become an official civil engineer is through formal education. Through this university, my future will be vastly changed for the better by adding significant value to it. The challenges I face every day at Missouri S&T will most certainly be worth it in the end, for I know what I want and need in my life when I become a civil…
