It would be useful to know if Misty plans to stay in Knoxville or wants to eventually move closer to her children. I would also like to know how she views the situation and why she does not see or talk to her children more often.
Strengths, Limitations, Barriers
The biggest strength of this family is the outside support they receive. The Timbes children have a grandmother who helps them with homework, transportation, financially, and many other ways. The Lambert have grandparents on both sides who are supportive and help the family financially. Derek and Terrianna both have only a high school education which prevents them from getting a high paying job. Also, Misty being in Knoxville and far away creates a barrier for the family.
Motivation/ Resistance
The family may be motivated to get Eliot evaluated for the emotional issues he experiences if they understand the long-term effects of this behavior going undiagnosed. Also, life would be easier for the entire family if they understand why Eliot behaves the way he does at times.
If Terrianna would see a counselor as she was advised, it would help her understand and process the trauma she dealt with as a child and her father’s death. This could prevent her from having another episode.
If Derek and Terrianna would sit down and explain to Misty that the boys need to see her or at least talk to her more often, it would help Lukas and Eliot deal with the absence of their mother.

With this family, there are multiple issues involved and it is important to look at the many systems involved to understand the role each system plays. On a micro level, the worker could talk to each member of the family on an individual basis to determine if there may be underlying issues that could be creating greater problems within the home. It would also be beneficial to get each member’s perspective on the current issues at hand. The mezzo level would look at the family and how they are functioning as a whole. The mezzo level would also look at other systems outside of the family such as friends, other family members, church family, outside organizations. In the case of this family, these would include the members of Snowdown Church of Christ where the family attends church, the relationships the members have with their grandparents, aunts, and uncles, Derek’s friends at work, and the children’s friends at
