Case Study Critique Through the years the news has reported on several cases similar to the Jackson case. Each time this kind of neglect case is brought to light the public often wonders what happened. The most difficult part of this case is that the children were so malnourished they were not even growing at an average rate for children of their age. How could this have gone on for so long?
With the amount of cases that social workers have it is a wonder that they catch any of these neglect cases. The social services system is bogged down with work that each social worker carries a heavy case load and, unfortunately, this means that things go unnoticed. I feel that it is entirely possible that the case workers were asking the right questions however; maybe the parents had all of the right answers as well. When there was no food in the refrigerator maybe they simply explained that they needed to go grocery shopping and had not had time yet. A social worker does not have enough time to figure out who is lying and who is not. Although a social workers main concern is the welfare of the children, they also have to ensure that all of their families are seen in a timely manner. Whether we like to believe it or not our social workers may not have the time to ensure that the children in our system are being properly cared for.
I do believe that the nine social services workers that spent time in the Jackson home should have been fired. These people had a duty to those children to protect them and I find it hard to believe that nine people were unaware of the circumstances in that home. They are trained to see when something is amiss and they all failed those boys.
Justice was served as well as it could be. I am sure the boys will have horrible memories of their time in that home and it will forever haunt them. The amount of money they received probably did not make them feel any

Some of the possible reasons caseworker were not aware of the conditions in the Jackson home could have been due to the fact that the Jackson made have put up a front every time the caseworker came over by pretending to like and do for the kids, or it could have been that the caseworker knew about the condition but just did not care. It is very hard to believe that these caseworkers really did not know that these kids were being abuse and mistreated.…

There is little evidence to show that the Sherman’s son, Rob, Jr. was unduly influenced, or coerced in any way to go with the Church of Divine Light. He went to some meetings voluntarily, and then after one conversation with Tom Marsden, he went to stay with the Church members. There is little to no evidence to show that any emotional distress was suffered either by Rob and Bunny Sherman or their son. In fact, they apparently took no action for more than five months to get him back from the Church. In addition, they willingly gave money to Rob, Jr. which went to supporting the Church which they now are considering filing suit against. False imprisonment goes against the facts, too. There is no evidence that the boy was kept anywhere against his…

On May 5th, 1993 three eight year old boys were reported missing in West Memphis, Arkansas. The boys were found the next day, hog tied in a wooded area called “Robin Hood Hills”. After the case had been “thoroughly” investigated, the West Memphis Police announced on the news that they had found the murderers, pointing fingers at Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin, three teenagers who were different from the norm in West Memphis, making it easy for them to be accused. I believe the boys were wrongfully accused of this crime because there is a lack of evidence in the case pointing to the boys, and the crime just seems to convenient for these three to actually pull off.…

The consensus of the nation can be summed up by the statement of New Yorker Susan McDougal “I’m sick, you know she killed a little girl and she gets off, goes home and maybe has another baby she can abuse and hurt.” Judgments like that give a green light to questionable people that it is alright to kill your child just as long as you know the prosecution will have a “weak” case against you, and you have a “good “ attorney that will get off! This level of level of ignorance displayed by our justice system is shameful and unacceptable. Our nation has laws based on reason, and our system’s bedrock principle is innocent until proven guilty. It’s a shame those principals weren’t used here. The American Judicial system has a set of rules passed by congress and approved by judges nationwide that establishes, in detail, how trials should be managed and what evidence may go to…

What really surprised me was the continued neglect of these children. It just seems like such a foreign concept to me to continually neglect children. Now it appears to be an easy concept, if a child is neglected, he/she needs more attention and care. I do realize that this is often hard in situations such as children in the foster care system, so how do we give these children the right amount of attention with limited resources?…

There are so many cases of child abuse and neglect throughout the world that it is being called an epidemic. Neglect is defined as “a type of maltreatment that refers to the failure by the caregiver to provide needed, age-appropriate care although financially able to do so or offered financial or other means to do so” (Child Neglect). The two main categories of neglect are physical and emotional (psychological). Out of the two types of neglect, emotional (psychological) neglect has a greater impact on children.…

I hope my letter will shine some light on this and some changes can be made, because it’s not just about these people being put away for no reason. Think about the people putting them way and how bad it’s going to look when it all comes to light. There are too many lives hurt from this now, there does not and should not be more. We all have to find a way to right the wrong that has been done and I think that the only way to that is to keep this from happing again, by making sure that when the time comes every department does its job by asking these simple questions. Was there any DNA? If so did we test it…

Child neglect is one form of child abuse. As we have learned in class, it is a failure of parents or caretakers to provide needed, age appropriate care including food, clothing, shelter, protection from harm, and supervision appropriate to the child’s development, hygiene, and medical care. Neglect accounts for about 69% of all abuse cases. It is hard to prove, because neglect usually happens at home and it varies from culture to culture (Crosson-Tower, 2012). Research shows that it does not affect one gender more than the other (Trickett, Negriff, Ji, & Peckins, 2011). However, it does tend to happen more frequently in a low income home (Trickett, Negriff, Ji, & Peckins, 2011). It is important to note that usually mothers are the…

Serious case reviews and inquiries are required to identify how, when and why a child has died from abuse or neglect. These reviews identify the way in which organisations and local professionals have worked both together and separately to safeguard, protect and promote the welfare of children and young people. These reviews also help to identify how these organisations could have worked better to ensure that this doesn’t happen again to another child.…
