Case Study Analysis
During this study there have been several mishaps involved in the process of hiring and training new recruits. It would seem as though that almost all of these issues could have been prevented had Monica given proper instruction to Carl in the beginning. As such it left Carl in his own predicament and subsequently caused the failure in training and management of the new recruits. There are many different ideas that could have led to a more successful outcome. Though, I believe it all falls back on Monica. While Monica may have had all the training and prerequisites to be a manger, she didn’t particularly apply those skills and knowledge to her subordinates. “Skills acquired and/or knowledge gained are only valuable to the extent they can be practically applied when called for” (Myatt, 2012).
“A good project plan gives direction and facilitates the delivery of your objective – a project plan that isn’t robust could impact your timeline and cost so it’s important that you spend the time in getting it right” (PMHut, 2013). There was no such plan presented in this case, because of this Carl was bound to fail with no plan to follow. “The receiver needs information to accomplish his/her task” (USCG, 1998). Information is key; always give an abundance of information even if you think it may be too much. “We hear only half of what is said to us, understand only half of that, believe half of that, and remember only half of that” (Walker et al, 2002). “all of these men and women have shared three critically important skills: They have been driven by an inspiring vision of success. They have excelled at communication. And they have exercised superior judgment” (Ryan, 2009).
I believe Monica’s first failure was not indicating to Carl what all would be required for the new recruits from the very get go. Instead she tasked Carl with the hiring without fully

Candidate Phillips conducted a five paragraph order brief, which covered all information and guidelines pertaining to the OSMEAC with the exception of the Command and Signal paragraph. SNC also failed to brief the Command sub-paragraph but did follow the five paragraph order format; however, he initially lacked confidence during the brief. SNC showed signs of nervousness in which he kept forgetting what to say and paused in between the brief making it distracting to listen to. The information that was briefed was accurate, based on the evaluator’s brief. SNC was able to develop an initial plan at the start of the mission. Candidate Baca briefed a complete operations order but with a sub-standard level of confidence. He stumbled over his words and failed to articulate his mission statement in a coherent manner. He did include detailed tasks to his subordinates for his initial plan, but then micromanaged their movements during execution. Candidate Baca spent time telling his fire team members where to place hands and feet during their attempted crossing of the obstacle and he wasted significant time deciding on a course of action next. He later realized that his plan was not working and that he had not made any progress in achieving his objective. He then asked for his subordinates help and then integrated their advice into his own plan in order to develop a plan…

In Carls situation he does not have much experience for his job and did not receive the proper training from his supervisor that may have been required to complete the task at hand even though he was thought to be experienced enough. Being hired at a company like ABC, it can be a common mistake by management that the employee knows what they are doing and that they may not need training at all. Carl Robins is a new campus recruiter for ABC Inc. He was able to recruit 15 new applicants in the month of April. The 15 new hires will work for Monica Carrolls, the Operations Supervisor. Carl was supposed to start the applicant’s orientation on June 15. By July 15, the new hires should be in working status. Carl was contacted by Monica on May 15 to ensure he had manuals, training schedule, orientation, policy booklet, drug test, and a series of things handled before the deadline. The day after Memorial Day, Carl went to the office, to make sure all of the paperwork for the new applicants was ready for orientation. When Carl was going through the files, he found things were not what it seemed. A couple of applicants did not complete their applications, nor did they have their transcripts on file.
