Disney has produced some successful and unsuccessful musical artist. From Britney Spears to Selena Gomez some Mouseketeers have proven that with a popular platform such as Disney one could and should go very far. But what happens in the transition period between the protection of Disney and the real world music industry? How does an artist “undisneyfies” themselves, how do they shed the label of a cute young Disney star? Looking in the music industry today there seems to be one logical answer for women, sexualization. This adaptation of a sexual image is not only seen visually through music videos but also heard lyrically and musically. Because of the ages that these artists emerge from under Disney’s wings one could argue that the decision to take on a more sensual image is upon the artist and while another can dispute that one’s image is a result of who writes the music.…

Media has become the main source of mass communication between people all over the globe. Often, people use media to advertise or send messages to their target audience with ease; much more than they would have in the past. Sometimes the messages that capitalist corporations use to sell to an audience are manipulated or hidden to focus on the unconscious mind of the viewer. These messages and signals are very apparent in Ariana Grande’s music video, “Break Free”. In this music video, Ariana is fighting aliens and freeing prisoners in an alternate, intergalactic universe while singing about breaking free from a dying relationship. In her lyrics, she states, “I only wanna die alive/Never by the hands of a broken heart/I don't wanna hear you…

Beyoncé Knowles was originally born in Houston, Texas in 1981. She rose to fame at only sixteen years old when her R&B group, more commonly known as Destinies Child, signed their first record deal. Since then, Beyoncé has embarked on numerous different experiences such as acting along side of Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson, and most importantly the take off of her solo career in 2004. Her first solo album sold millions of copies, won her five Grammy awards and was certified platinum four times. Her second solo album, released in 2006, held two of her most famous songs, Irreplaceable and Beautiful Liar, which some would say were the songs that really created a name for her. At the 2010 Grammy awards, Beyoncé walked away with 6 Grammy’s. Since then, she has released her self-titled album, Beyoncé, without any promotion for it. Surprisingly, she still sold over 800,000 copied of this album in the first weekend that it hit shelves (Beyoncé 2015). Since the release of this album she holds 19 total career Grammy awards, putting her on the list of top 20 artists with the most Grammy awards, alongside of her husband Jay-Z (Grein 2014).…

❤ The main thing I stay away from is starchy carbs (no rice, potato, pasta, bread, cereal, etc.) and sweets (with a cheat day once a month because it’s good for your soul :D ). However it’s important to have some carbs (depending what they are) because they’re a great source of energy and certain carbs eliminate bloating. Like oatmeal. I have organic oatmeal with flax and cinnamon every morning to get my body going and to have some energy for the day. I usually eat it with 2 hard boiled eggs or a handful of almonds for protein. I generally have really long work days every day so throughout the day I keep myself energized and my belly full with fruits and veggies with almond butter or nuts, green tea and healthy bars like Think Thins, Live Raw bars or Pure bars. Yes these bars have more calories than a 90 calorie Special K bar but here’s why they’re the smarter choice… The ingredients in a Special K bar aren’t natural and are harder for your body to break down. If you eat snacks that are more natural (Think Thins, Live Raw bars or Pure bars, fruits, veggies, nuts etc) you’ll consume way more calories but your body will be able to process and USE the ingredients for nourishment instead of storing them as fat. For lunch I always have some lean protein with a fruit or veggie like salmon and kale or chicken with hummus and some berries. For dinner I have whichever of the two I didn’t eat for lunch. I usually alternate! I try to have my last meal of the day before 7:30. If I get hungry before bed I will never let myself go to sleep hungry. I’ll just have some fruit or nuts. A glass of dandelion tea before bed is also great for you. A lot of people also say that fruit isn’t good for you because it has a lot of sugar and that avocado or hummus or cashews have too much fat. This is true… fruit has some sugar and some carbs. Nuts and avocado and hummus DO have a lot of fat but they aren’t the kinds of fats that will make you fat. They’re healthy fats. They will nourish your…

Picture this: candy canes larger than trees; gingerbread men but actual man-sized; and lollipops that look like traffic lights. If you're thinking Christmas, you're wrong. If you're thinking Katy Perry's live show, you're spot on. Katy is the self-appointed face of modern pop not so much pushing the boundaries as nudging them with a hyper-curled eyelash wink. But you can't knock it, it's a niche that was vacant and with such an enthusiastic reaction to her girl kissing breakthrough she can hardly be blamed for diving in outrageous burlesque meets panto costumes and all. Any suggestion that she's just a jokey gal with a decent set of lungs and an over-sexed celebrity husband is wide of the mark though. She might revel in the whole Mae West for…
