Carpe Diem Analysis
Carpe Diem is a latin word that means ““seize the day”, used for saying that people should enjoy the present rather than worrying about the future.”(Carpe Diem- Cambridge Dictionary). According to Phrase Finder carpe translates to pluck, so pluck the day. Carpe Diem was first used in Odes Book 1. Odes Book 1 it says, “As we speak cruel time is fleeing. We will take a look at two poets; “To His Coy Mistress” by Andrew Marvell and “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” by Robert Herrick. “To His Coy Mistress” is to his shy girlfriend. He wants her to “Seize the day” by having a good time with him. Andrew wrote, “I always hear/ Time's winged chariot hurrying near;/ And yonder all before us lie/ Deserts of vast eternity. (lines 21-24). When talking about theses lines Andrew Marvell is talking about how he hears the time of time ending and they will die here shortly. They will be buried in the sand forever. He continues to talk about if him and his girlfriend do not they will be worm food. Yet, he says it this way. “Then worms shall try/ That long preserved virginity,/ And your quaint honor turn to dust,/ And into ashes all my lust” (Marvell lines 27-30). Lust in this since means love so all his love will die in the dust/sand that they are buried in. Now, in the other poem “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” by Robert Herrick he tells the “coy” (Herrick line 13) girl to wait till your married. Yet, do it soon because you might lose your “prime” (Herrick line 15) or youth and if you lose your “prime” (line 15). “You may forever tarry” (line 16) or you might get behind. These are from two different points that say just do it and then the second one that is from a preacher. He met her at a play, but little does she know she has a boyfriend. Knows goes to this party she invites him to and she is passed out on the couch and he gives her a forehead kiss and one of the guys notice playing a game and they have a big fight. The boys by this time in the movie are ran through the woods and started making another dead poet society club.
Todd gets a desk set again for his birthday and one of his friends threw it off the side of the building and said, “Well at least it flew for awhile.” The movie goes on and Neal has had enough and has shot himself because of this father. He did not want to go to military school and his father said it was his fault.
The movie gave a look at the poems just a little twist, but in a different ways. The poems talk about love and the sun. While the movie is about love, freedom, and church bells. So, let’s take a risk and do something
