Carlos Alberto Vives Research Paper
Carlos Alberto Vives is a Colombian singer known for his fusion of pop vocals and Colombian Vallenato music. Vives was born in Santa Marta (a city on the northern coast of Colombia) on August 7, 1961. In addition, Carlos has been helping other groups that are surging like ChoQuibTown, that is a group of two men and a woman from a poor region located in the pacific coast of Colombia called Choco. This amazing singer is considered one of the most acclaimed artist of Latin America. According to Alisa Valdes, a journalist of the New York times, “Vives embodies the very soul of Latin America”. In his early life, Vives wanted to be a publicist. Therefore, he moved from his hometown city to the capital (Bogota. D.C.) and started to study marketing in a recognized university in this field, the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano. While studying, he got involved in the local music scene starting to play in bars and restaurants in Bogota. He used to sing Vallenato songs. According to the definition given by the Oxford Dictionary, Vallenato means “born in the valley” and is a popular folk music from the Colombia’s Caribbean region. Because of his cultural environment, Vives grew up with similar genres to vallenato and folk music like Cumbia.

In the same year, he releases his first album, “Por Fuera y Por Dentro” but it didn’t have any success. In 1987 he released his second album of ballads titled “No Podras Escapar de Mi”. Moreover, this album had a bad sell record but was the #30 on the billboard hot Latin tracks.
