Mariano Vivanco Research Paper
Mariano Vivanco. Mario Testino. Nick Knight. These three photographers have not only inspired my work, and myself, but they have also inspired the fashion industry immensely. Without these three photographers, I wouldn't be writing this essay or want to be pursuing a career as a fashion photographer. I essentially wouldn't be the person I am today without them.
Mariano Vivanco got his start by shooting portraits of models in London. From his portraits of models, he quickly gained notice within the London fashion scene, which led him to work for Dazed & Confused Magazine. Since then he has shot for many internationally recognized magazines including Vogue, GQ, and Elle. Mariano has made a name for himself by simply applying the basic principles of photography to his work; light and shade. By doing so he has differentiated himself from other fashion photographers who are caught up in the glam of fashion photography. He has his own distinct vision, which I feel is very important.

His unconventional ways of pushing the technical and creative boundaries put him at the forefront of innovation and make him one of world's most visionary photographers. He continually pushes the conventional ideals of beauty, which I love. Not only has he worked with top celebrities, designers, and magazines, but he has made an effort to work on controversial issues such as racism, disability, and ageism. He has said, "I don't want to reflect social change - I want to cause social change." Capturing not only fashion, but also important issues of the world, and doing so in such a unique way, makes me have the utmost respect for Mr. Knight and I aspire to be on his level one
