Career Goals
I have chosen to study Medical Office Management. Medical office managers work to make sure that the people who come into the office have the best possible care. Medical managers need to keep their eye on costs as well. They also plan, direct, and coordinate medical and health services in hospitals and clinics. As a medical office manager I would also be responsible for hiring and training personnel. Also establish work schedules and assignments for the staff according to the workload, space, and equipment availability. I would be responsible for monitoring the use of diagnostic services, inpatient beds, facilities and staff to ensure effective use of resources and assess the need for additional staff equipment and services. Most employers prefer to hire people who have a post secondary education as opposed to only a high school diploma. There are a couple of certifications that I am able to get to help me advance in my career as a medical office manager. The first is the Certified Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS). The second one is the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) exam. The CMAS exam is provided by the American Medical Technologists and it enables for faster promotion and higher pay. In order to be eligible to take the CPS exam I would need to have at least three years of full time field experience. These certifications are not required but if you would want to advance in your career and climb the ladder to a higher position these will help you out a great deal. A current issue that is relevant to my chosen career path is the fact that the cost of healthcare is on the rise and it will continue to rise. It would be my job to try and keep the healthcare cost in my office down but also make sure that the patients that come in and out of the office that I work in are still receiving the very best care possible. My career goals are to be able to get my foot in the door. I will be starting off as in an entry level position of course. The
