Career Exploration Paper
My first year at UPEI has been an unforgettable journey full of challenges and surprises that affected my personal and academic identity. Looking back, I can finally detect the changes that occurred in my life during this period of time. This year impacted different aspects of my life including my personality, school performance, goals, and career path.
Throughout the year, I learnt that seeking perfection is an impossible task, especially that we learn from mistakes and failures. Therefore, it is important to analyze the outcomes and to reflect on what led to certain results rather than focusing on the negative result itself. Another lesson that my experiences during this year taught me is that no matter where you go or what you do, you will always find people who support and encourage you, yet you will encounter others who try to take advantage of you. Throughout this semester many things have been new experiences for the entire class. Some met new interesting people on the other hand some people learned new experiences that will be used throughout the rest of this next semester. Whether it was watching a video on the computer or reading through the Bedford book, many new techniques were learned, as well as new information being learned. Some day’s everything may have not been all together but everything still managed to work out for the entire class, or the one’s that stuck it out through “craziness” of being a new student or having a new teacher. This “craziness was definitely well worth it now that the semester is over and the new semester is approaching.…

Although I have made the choice not to stay at IUPUC all four years of my college career, being here my first semester has started me off great. During this event they spoke of how we start and end our four years in the same way. I am just glad I have been able to enjoy my first semester by making some new friends, learning new strategies to working and figuring my life out.…

I’ve always been a people pleaser, aiming to impress. I thought in order to impress I needed to do everything that my parents wanted me to do. They wanted me to be an athlete, however, that wasn’t in the cards. I was always the kid that worked the hardest, but sometimes that’s not enough. After I gave up trying to be the athlete my parents wanted me to be, I found music. Not only was music a great way for me to express myself, but it’s the first thing I was ever good at. I love to perform if I could do it as a career I would. I’m also what I consider an accomplished composer/arranger for my age. Composing movie music is my ultimate goal, but I also find audio engineering an interesting career. I think I could succeed in an audio engineering…

    First Day at University

The much anticipated day had arrived, the beginning of the first week of an experience that had been in the back of my mind for many years never really believing it would happen for one reason or another. I begin university life as a mature student having left school at the tender age of 16 to pursue a career in the Army and go on to complete eight years of service. During this time I was involved in nearly every modern day conflict that many are made aware of through the media. These times were unsurprisingly very difficult yet very rewarding in some respects; some of my experiences are those that most people are only ever likely to be seen in films. It is because of my experiences that I made a decision to change my path in life, and this involved my returning to education firstly at my local college where I successfully completed a national diploma in sports science. It was a huge decision to return to education and found it difficult to adapt initially but with help, and my continuous desire to succeed got me to where I wanted to be, university. From the day I completed my course at college the countdown was on, day by day, week by week, the overwhelming feelings of anticipation and trepidation would continue to build and the early stages brought about feelings of it not being real somehow, the question being asked, ‘Am I really going to university?’, and the answer really only becomes clear as I made my way up the motorway and begun to unload my possessions. The first hours of the first week are filled with many questions, most of which are nearly impossible to be answered immediately, questions like ‘Will I meet new friends?’, and ‘How are people going to react to me?’ Given my life experience you…
