Crazy Comp One
Crazy Comp One Throughout this semester many things have been new experiences for the entire class. Some met new interesting people on the other hand some people learned new experiences that will be used throughout the rest of this next semester. Whether it was watching a video on the computer or reading through the Bedford book, many new techniques were learned, as well as new information being learned. Some day’s everything may have not been all together but everything still managed to work out for the entire class, or the one’s that stuck it out through “craziness” of being a new student or having a new teacher. This “craziness was definitely well worth it now that the semester is over and the new semester is approaching. The first few weeks were focused on learning about each class mate as well as learning about different audiences for different situations. An assignment that was assigned to the class was that everyone needed to get on the internet and research about people that were affected by different horrible situations, such as drugs, alcohol, women that worked “the corner” for money and many other reasons. While looking through the pictures of each person, we were to right a short summary about a person that was interesting. One person that stood out is “Takeesha 3- is a prostitute and is a mother and she is happy with the way things are she says it is what it is” (DeShazo #10) This woman stated that she knew what she had done and was really okay with the way it was. Also, another assignment completely opposite of this assignment was “Fish Cheeks.” This is a story written by Amy Tan about a girl that is Chinese and has a crush on an American boy and is ashamed of her culture. An example is “Because she is the opposite of him and does not know what he will think of her family.” (DeShazo #1 Fish Cheeks) This girl was ashamed of her culture and soon realized after the dinner was over that her mother was trying to make things better for her by cooking

I have accomplished a great deal in the past three months. As the semester ends I find myself reflecting not only on how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. Writing is hard work. There is so much more to it than just writing an interesting story. I also learned another important lesson; just because I worked hard on an essay before presenting it and reviewed the daylights out of it did not mean it was ready for submission. Every time I went back to read it I found new changes, typos and other mistakes I had missed before.…

Throughout this semester my learning experiences have been very significant towards my awareness of the Indigenous population. My personal perspectives have been impacted throughout this semester drastically also. This unit has helped increase my awareness toward the Indigenous people of Australia and the immoral battles they where put through in the past. My response to this unit of study was completely different to what I thought it would have been. My emotions have been triggered considerably throughout this semester. What really touched me was hearing about the horrific measures Indigenous children were put through. Getting taken away from their families purely because of their Aboriginal background, being mistreated, and having their innocents corrupted really upset me. Another aspect of history that really got to me was the story Rebecca told the class. The history on ‘closed adoptions’ that Rebecca was personally apart of.…

This class has been an experience to which I am thankful for. I believe this class should continue to be a must for all incoming freshman here at Concordia. By taking this class I learned so many things about how to successfully adapt from high school classes to college courses. Every day in your class was a new day for me to learn about how to prepare and plan for success for not only the next four years, but also for the rest of my life. The great thing about transitions though, is that I was about to meet so many great new people in my life. With all the interacting done between people in the class, I was able to talk and have conversations with everybody…

Throughout this week I have experienced many mixed emotions. On Tuesday I came to class extremely exhausted so I took a 5 minute power nap: I woke up confused and overwhelmed. Luckily Prof. Aran took a short break, but I still struggled to catch up on what I missed. On Wednesday I got up early to begin my rhetorical analysis and study the math problems I did not understand. It was a great feeling to come to class and know exactly what was going on. After class I joined a math study group which made me feel even more confident about my math exam approaching quickly. On Thursday I finished my first assignment with 10 hours to spare. My Rhetorical Analysis paper was very challenging to write, but I dedicated 2 hours a night and finished the…

The first reasons that made this class interesting were the unbearable challenges. From the very first day, Gina made everyone in class get into a circle and talk about ourselves. This was a challenge for me. I do not like talking about myself because I become nervous and don’t know what to say. Later on, she would say if we don’t do well on both tests, she’ll drop anyone who fails. Consequently, I had to wake up early in the morning just to study which never done before. She also made us communicate with each other as a group; however, this wasn’t haft-bad because I made some new friends in class. The essay…

It has gone so incredibly fast. I can honestly say that I am going to miss this class. I am not going to miss the drive to Collinsville, though. I feel that I have grown a great bit while making my way through this Cross Cultural cluster. I never once dreaded having to work all day and then having to go to class and sit for four hours. My classmates are great. As a class, we always made it fun and entertaining. I do hope that I am blessed with having them in class with the rest of my journey seeking my bachelor’s degree. I have plenty of class left to conquer. Lastly, thank you, Professor Anderson! You made this cluster to be unlike any that I have experienced thus far. You made me feel comfortable from day one. I am a real big fan of your spontaneousness and flexibility. You could really feel your passion each night we met. You could tell you wanted to be there teaching us. Again, thank you. And, it would bring me great joy to have you again as my…

Freshman year is never an easy year, especially when you're the new girl. Aliyah wanted to incinerate her past and have a fresh start; she would be a stranger to all of them. Once she arrived to her new locker, she had a difficult time accessing it. After the twentieth time, she was finally able to open her locker and put all her supplies inside. On her way to her first class, she had overheard that the math teacher assigned arduous assignments causing an abundance of students to drop out within the first week. Mrs.Katra, the math teacher, gave a "I've been doing this for 35 years, I know all the tricks" speech for 30 minutes and gave us a homework assignment afterwards; at first glance it didn't seem difficult but after looking at it for a while, Aliyah began to feel uneasy about the class. She usually liked challenges and was intrepid but school was important to her and she didn't want to disappoint her parents.…

I think that I challenged myself to receive good grades, and that I have done so this semester. I am eager to find out new or different things that I have some knowledge about, but I was amazed at the things I thought were right with counseling issues that I was completely wrong about. I am sure that I still have a long way to go, and many new things to learn. I feel that I was entirely invested in this class and all the assignments that were given to me. I wasn’t late on any assignments and many times had the assignment finished before it was due. I read each chapter carefully and was interested in each new thing that I found. I always want to do my very best in each class that I take. I returned back to college when I was 40 years old. This was something that I had dreamed of for many years, but was afraid to try it. I thought that I wasn’t smart enough to go back to school. I am glad that I made this decision even if it was many years after I should have done it.…

This week I learned about discrimination against others. This is something that I think about often however I have never thought to educate others so that they are aware of discrimination and how not discriminate. I have always taken every extra step to make sure that I have not discriminated against anyone, even accidentally. I try to make everyone feel included and feel good about themselves. This week our readings were on the different types of people in the world and how important diversity is to the survival of our species.…

This story starts off with three girls going to Redeemer College a school for only girls, they have caused so much trouble for the time they have been attending the school and have given it a bad reputation. Ta Jeeka Brentford, Caledonia Nuttall and Katreena Melmac has made it their duty to disobey anyone who tries to tell them what is right but on a July afternoon a meeting is called to decide what to do with the three girls but the principal’s mind has been made up for expulsion. However the chairman of the school board Canon Rodney Pryce and the junior librarian Elaine Mico does not think that is a good idea, they believe that the girls need a second chance to prove themselves. Still thinking that the girls should be expelled the principal starts pointing out the things the girls have done like; skipping classes to sleep behind the hibiscus hedge which is out of bounds, bullying younger children for their lunch money and also not returning library books. The only thing the principal wanted was these three girls out of the school because the keep on disrupting it and driving teachers away, but being a Christian the chairman wanted to understand the three girls so with the help of Ms Mico they set up a one year programme called the Integrated Learning Unit for the analysis of the girls. Reflection on English

This past year has been a huge eye-opener in many ways to me. I can't believe that my freshman year in college is almost over! I learned a tremendous amount the last two semesters, not only in an educational way but I also learned how to manage my time and to be responsible. It really didn't hit me that I was actually in college until my English class with Mrs. Bartram. I noticed right away she was my kind of teacher. I knew that I would want to be very successful and try my best in her class. Sometimes teachers just don't have that motivation or attitude that makes their students want to learn and to try their best. In my English class, I felt the motivation to learn. This class really made me realize that I need to take responsibility of being a college student. I felt we had good and helpful discussions throughout the semester. Discussions give everyone in the class the opportunity to speak their own opinions. This made me realize that everyone has their own thoughts and beliefs. One of the main concepts I have learned is to never judge other people and to treat others how you would like to be treated.…
