Career Essay

I have thought long and hard about my future career and through my short time working seasonal jobs I have found what I enjoy and what I don't. I dont want to work for someone, do the same thing everyday, or get little to no credit for anything I do. I would be happy working for myself doing different things and getting the gratification when the job is done. All things considered I have chosen to become an Entrepreneur. There are several steps I must take to get to where I want to be, but many different paths to choose from. Being an Entrepreneur does not require any specific education, but education never hurts. Several educational routes could be: degree in a trade, degree in any business, or just a degree in Entrepreneurship.
“Make money in my sleep.” This is my dream future in which I plan on making a reality. Entrepreneurship is most appealing to me because of the following: be your own boss, work when you want to, and best of all there is no salary cap. These things all motivate me to work toward this career. As I stated earlier this all started from my seasonal job experiences. Over the year I have held many jobs all offering something a little different which I thoroughly enjoy. For example: Park City Credit Union as a teller I learned many aspects of money and investments; Changing Gears bike shop taught me how to market, sell, and provide a service to people; Dock Doctor doing landscaping and dock repairs working with my hands. The list goes on but i have taken away a little something different from each task which has taught me a lot about myself and what I enjoy doing. As an Entrepreneur I will be able to get my ideas out and create, market and provide people with products and service that has never been seen before. In doing this I will receive full gratification for my efforts alone with a paycheck to equally satisfy.
“I expect failure, but wont except failure.” Up to this point this may all sound like a dream with no bumps in

Scott Adams shares with us the ideal framework for an entrepreneurial curriculum. In his article How to Get a Real Education, he reinforces the fact that the whole is far greater than the sum of these parts, especially in the context of an entrepreneur. Adams tells us of a couple stories from when he was in college and how he used the skills of an entrepreneur to become successful. He saw opportunities, sometimes embedded within problems, and worked them to his favor. This is what he referred to when speaking of the learned skill of transforming “nothing into something”, which is a skill that obviously applies to business. His basic idea is that much academic-oriented education is wasted on many people. Scott says these people would instead profit from a much more skills-oriented education, “something useful, like entrepreneurship”. Adams is essentially informing these college students on how to make the most out of their schooling and what skills are needed to do so.…

Another factor pushing me to further my studies is a general quest for knowledge that can allow me to become a better rounded person. While online schooling and AP class create pathways to success in both college and careers, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provides students with higher success in both the classroom, and the workforce. Unlike online schooling and AP classes, CTE programs allow students the opportunity to challenge themselves and provide them with, “...the academic, technical, and employability skills and knowledge to pursue...and enter a career field…”(Brand et al. 7). As soon as students begin their freshman year of high school, they are pressured into choosing a career field they are interested in. This creates numerous problems when selecting future colleges and careers, because a majority of students are not given the opportunity to receive hands-on…

I think that it’s possible for you to like work as long as you do it on time. The work most teachers give out isn’t that bad and doesn’t take that long. If you get behind, you’re most likely to create an even deeper hole for yourself. That’s why you should always turn in your work on time, so you don’t have to deal with later and not get on the teacher’s nerves!…

I have always had a great love for math and science. These subjects come naturally for me; therefore, pursuing a career as an electrical engineer is not a surprise. Prior to my research, my knowledge of electrical engineering was limited. I knew that math is a huge part of the career along with power grids and science. My goal for the research was to strengthen my understanding of what it means to be an electrical engineer and decide if I should pursue a career in this field. After hours of analysis, I learned what the basic requirements for the occupation are and many more crucial facts about electrical engineer. The first place that I looked for information about my career was the MS Choices website. Next, I searched the Occupational Outlook Handbook website. Finally, I conducted an interview with Steve Merritt, an electrical engineer employed at Tronox. By using MS Choices, the…

It is hoped that after reading this module you will actually see the potential of a career in entrepreneurship, and experience a desire to start a venture of your own. At the same time there might be certain inhibitions in your mind whether such a task is feasible, practical and sustainable. For every task one needs certain competencies. In this module you would learn in detail about the entrepreneurial competencies. Whereas competencies reinforce a person’s perception of feasibility of a career option, there also has to be the will and urge, a ‘perception of the desirability.’ Is it not impossible that entrepreneurship has a key role to play in economic development, yet there are very few who ever think of it as a career option? And, it is not that they may be lacking in skills. What one often finds is the lack of motivation! Competencies equip you with the knowledge of how to do (‘know-how’) of entrepreneurial behavior and motivation provides answers to why to do (‘know-why’) of entrepreneurial behavior. You would also be learning about why people opt for entrepreneurship. The question of ‘why entrepreneurship’ is also linked to reward expectations, be these financial, social status or psychological satisfaction. In case of entrepreneurship, successful performance of the venture itself becomes a reward for the entrepreneur.…
