SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri is a Catholic non-profit community hospital. SSM Health offers care through 20 hospitals, 63 outpatient care sites, nursing homes, hospice and more. One of those 20 hospitals include Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. (SSMHealth, 2017) Cardinal Glennon is among one of the leading academic medical centers in its region. Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is not just your day to day walk in Emergency Room type hospital. Cardinal Glennon is staffed with physicians from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. With some of the best pediatric specialists, Cardinal Glennon has more than one location for their patients to be seen. They have specially trained doctors, …show more content…
Ritter, along with many others, saved all they had to help build the hospital and find staffing. Some of those people included the first medical director; Dr. Peter G. Danis, the first chief of staff; Leo Wick, the chairman for fundraisers; Frank J. Guyol, and the chairman for general solicitation; the Sisters of St. Mary. The Sisters of St. Mary, who are now called Franciscan Sisters of Mary, were the administrators of the hospital. The Franciscan Sisters of Mary have always had a big part of the hospital. Louis, Cardinal John J. Glennon. Glennon was the Archbishop from 1903-1946 and had a mission to see a health care facility open for all children in need of medical care. Cardinal Glennon Children’s hospital opened on July 5, 1956. (Kenny, 2016) The founders of SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital have went beyond what they thought of when they first opened, which was just to open a health care facility for children; today it is so much more.
The mission statement for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is “Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.” They have values that are sacred to them and were inspired by their founding sisters. The five values are consistent with their mission. Their five values are Compassion, Respect, Excellence, Stewardship and Community.
