Captain Nemo In 20000 Leagues Under The Sea
20000 Leagues Under the Sea

In this book a quite outstanding character is Captain Nemo. Captain Nemo is the captain of the Nautilus, and he has vowed to never return to solid land. Throughout the whole story his character is mysterious, but after every event a little aspect of him is revealed to the reader. A great aspect is his loyalty. His loyalty is clearly portrayed when a crew member dies and he cries. “As I said, Captain Nemo wept while staring at the waves. His grief was immense.” (Verne, 417). Here we see how Captain Nemo is very loyal, and even thought it was just a crew member he loved him as if he was family. Even though he was very loyal he still considered himself above humans. “I'm the law, I'm the tribunal! I'm the oppressed,

At first the book started quite slow and interesting, with a bunch of scientific names and a lot of ocean biology. What I really liked about this book was the diversity of the characters in the Nautilus. There was the scientist, the captain, the servant and the strong guy. I really liked how their views were quite different, but they managed to have a good relationship. This book made me realize how vast the ocean is, and how little we know about it. We barely know what happens in the surface, and much less what is happening at six kilometers under the surface. The challenge of this book was the book itself. It named so many animals that I didn’t know. Also towards the end the book got repetitive and was a bit slow to read, combining it with tons of facts it gets boring after the 250th page. But overall I enjoyed the book, I thought it was quite nice to see how much effort Jules Verne did in the research. I also liked the fact that when this book was reading there were no submarines, and this is quite interesting because it’s not the first book from Jules Verne that has an object or an event that happens later in history. The best part about the book in my opinion is the Nautilus. The machinery, the electrical part, and its mechanism are really unique and quite well

I thought that this book was adventurous and exciting. The author gave a lot of detail and the story line was very interesting. I liked the plot because it was exciting and Charlotte goes through a big change in the story. The book kept me wondering what would happen next. I did not like how the story ended though because it is probably not what I would have done. I could relate to Charlotte when she wanted to help the crew and become a part of them because that is how I would have felt to. I would have felt…

An item of interest was the topic of vivisection, which made me think of Frankenstein even though there was no animals in that story. The story had me thinking of the ethics of experimenting on animals today. Testing no matter what the benefits to humans we must remember that animals are living beings as well and we can create great things without harming others. Overall the book was great. It had plenty elements of suspense and kept my interest throughout. I would recommend it to…

Parts of the book I enjoyed and parts of the book I didn’t enjoyed. What I enjoyed about the book was the learning the history of humans and different societies. I enjoyed hearing about all these groups from the Polynesians to the Europeans. I was great reading how their geographical locations had such great impact on their diversity and advancement in history. Also I enjoyed hearing some of the real life experiences such as the authors trip to Australia because I could relate to the hot heat of it. With every book there are a few things I did not enjoy about it. First it was hard for me to follow it. Certain topics I did not understand and it seemed too lengthy to me. I know the author was supporting his thesis but I thought some parts weren’t as important as others. Which leads to that some parts of the book was very dull for me. This made me lose track of where I was, and what was going on. Overall I had mixed feelings on the book, both positive and…

In the thrilling adventure, Finding Nemo, directed by Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich, Marlin, the father of Nemo, goes through life very cautiously, scared from everything that seems unsafe for him and his son. He has been like this ever since his wife, Coral, passed away trying to save her baby eggs. Nemo was the last egg left so Marlin had to protect him with his life. First of all, while Marlin is taking Nemo to school he tells him “That's my boy. So, first we check to see that the coast is clear. We go out and back in. And then we go out, and back in. And then one more time--out and back in. And sometimes, if you wanna do it four times--” (Stanton, Unkrich, X:XX) This shows that Marlin tries to keep his son safe from everything around him.…

This book included some really good detailed scenes and also some scenes that did not make sense to me. However, through all of the super intense scenes, I have had to put the book down to process what just happened, because of all the things that happened all at once. This book, is they type of book that has you hooked from the beginning to the end. I loved how the author had stuffed the part of Katie waking up on the cabin floor, on the first pages. It really kept me hooked.…

There are several things that I like about this book. First off, I love historical fiction, and this is the genre of this book. Also, despite the author being too descriptive, the book went at a steady pace. For me, pace usually determines whether I will read the book or not, and I never really hesitated, or thought about changing books.…

It had humor, real life events, sadness, and suspense. I would most definitely recommend this novel to someone because although it’s very long, you won’t want to stop reading it. This book will make you wonder, cry, even laugh. It’s a book that I think had great meaning and was put together very well. In my opinion, there is no flaws about this book except how long it is.…

In my honest opinion I did not like this book and I do not recommend it. The story itself is magnificent but the fact that it is 100% based off of the movie makes it pointless to read. They could have thrown in more deadly obstacles to face and made it worth reading. Overall it had more weaknesses than strengths. Strengths I can give is that if you haven’t seen the movie, then the book could definitely give you exactly what you’ve missed out on. It is a great story and is more than your average adventure tale. Reading it really does make you feel like you were a kid again, running around and being creative.…

The United States government sends the USS Abraham Lincoln to search out and destroy this monster. On board the USS Abraham Lincoln were famous French marine biologist Pierre Aronnax along with his sidekick, Conseil. Also, a harpooner, named Ned Land. The expedition starts in the Atlantic Ocean. After a time passes with no sight of the sea monster, they finally see the creature in the Pacific Ocean. The vessel chases it, but the monster is too fast. During the chase, the USS Abraham Lincoln is damaged and the three men fall overboard, Aronnax, Conseil and Land. The three men find themselves on top of the mysterious creature, which is actually a submarine, the Nautilus. They are taken on board and placed in a cell. The men meet Captain Nemo, the commander of the vessel. Captain Nemo was very friendly to his guests. Not only were all three of the men guests but prisoners. Nemo did not allow them to leave. The reason Nemo created this vessel was to escape from the real world. He says that he wants to live his life alone away from all the mischief and die peacefully. After one year on the submarine it is finally in the North Atlantic. The vessel is attacked by a giant squid! The crew tries to kill it with axes and spears eventually driving the squid away. After that, the vessel gets trapped in a whirlpool and they use this opportunity to escape. Land, Aronnax, and Conseil take the small boats that they find on the Nautilus and paddle to Norway while Captain Nemo and his crew die along with the vessel as it sinks to the…

J.K. Rowling said, “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” Rowling was right, you always need courage for anything, especially when you need to stand up to someone you like. In the TED talk “Living with Courage: Embracing Fear to Follow Your heart”, Kelley Kalafatich said, “Not acting because of feeling unmotivated, indecisive, apathy, to comfortable, or even feeling lazy about doing something, these are sometimes hidden fears or anxieties that hold us back from doing something really great.” Not being courageous can ruin your life. You won’t take risks and have the excitement you should be having. You also will never see who you could have been, a success. This quote can easily…

What I enjoyed most about reading this book was the way the author introduced and described all of the characters. I had a great picture in my mind about each and every character and I felt myself thinking about some of them even when they were absent from a page or two. It became so interesting that before I could finish the book, I had to turn to the internet to look up the characters of the movie. I just had to see them in the flesh!…
