Capstone Project Reflective Report
I received a 2.88 out of 3 on the Capstone Project. . In completing the Capstone Project I was able to demonstrate my comprehension of InTASC Standard Eight. Due to the fact that every student is different, it is crucial to identify a student’s individual needs and find strategies that would help this particular student. For the Capstone project, I was tasked with finding five need-based strategies to help an ELL with his reading. My student particularly struggled with vocabulary. I was able to use cognates as an aide to show him how English and Spanish have similar spelling and pronunciations. This worked well for him because he already had an extensive Spanish vocabulary that needed to be extended tot English. However, since no student is

This module has helped me to understand that you cannot approach all ELL students the same due to their culture background and characteristics. I learned that there were many strategies that I already used within my classroom, such as using visuals and videos. Also, I realized that the same strategies that used with my ELL students could be used with my struggling learners within my classroom. To improve the quality of the artifact, with the proper quantity of ELL students, I would have worked with a younger student who was least proficient with the English language. It would have given me another perspective with trying more of the strategies that were offered within the module…

There are many issues that face the criminal justice system in our society today. However, one of the most overlooked issues that face our criminal justice system today has to do with juvenile delinquency and the growing problem that our society is faced with in this area. The aim of this unit is to reflect upon, justify and evaluate two assessment methods and decisions in my specialist area, which is ESOL. The activities chosen as examples of tasks based on the assessment methods used in my observation (multiple choice and oral questions) are part of an ESOL entry 1 diagnostic assessment pack available at the talent (training adult literacy, ESOL and numeracy teachers) website. The activities provide an opportunity to observe the skills students are using in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The skills are all assessed in the same context (Samira’s life). As an ESOL entry 1 tutor, I found these materials suitable and easy to incorporate into my…

    Reflective Summary

I felt sad for Mr. Gill, one of the main reasons being that I have personally been in a MVC myself which brought up the similar feelings, such as anxiety and chronic pain that Mr. Gill expressed. It felt like despite the differences in our age or situation, the pain he was expressing I could relate to directly. Another reason for feeling sadness for him was that he reminded me so much of my own father in appearance and nature. During the session, he referred to me as someone who is like his daughter and that he felt comfortable sharing information with me. I think this moment caused a shift in our therapeutic relationship, in which I felt even more inclined to show him respect and to provide encouragement on his development. The language barriers he faced in getting treatment made me feel angry towards the system. Unfortunately, MVC are common occurrences in our society thus, I imagined that the support systems would have been set in place for survivors to reduce the effects of physical and psychological harms.…

Bradford, I really enjoyed your post as we share the same ideas and seem to have the same experiences with multiple supervisors. I liked how you stated up front that unity of command and unity of direction mean different things and not should not be confused with each other. To me, unity of command is the most important because unity of direction cannot exist without it, especially in criminal justice. Like you said, each officer should only have one direct supervisor that is ultimately responsible for him or her because confusion can arise if there are more than one. I saw this recently at my agency and it really affects the newer officers if the problem is not corrected. I also saw how unity of direction can really work when one…

That was another week went by at Sherwood Park Manor. As usual, I started my shift by listening to the morning report and then heading to my assign resident room. I started morning care by providing the care of my assigned resident, including taking her vital signs. After that I directed my resident to sit in the dining for breakfast meal. And once I was done, I went and helped another resident with morning care too, and at last bring him to the dining for breakfast. However, before I head to the dining to help with feeding the resident I checked the room to ensure that everyone was out. While I was checking I found a resident lying in bed and when I asked other personal support worker about her, I was told that she refused to get up for breakfast. I went to her any way to try to convince her to come for breakfast and finally she was able to get up and…

I had never really discussed the Senior Project with any of the 2016 seniors, so I really did not know what awaited me. It only took a short period of time to open my eyes to the tremendous task facing me and my fellow classmates. When I started writing my research paper, the information I began collecting on becoming a high school history teacher seemed very familiar. Since both my grandparents taught school for thirty-two years, I have listened all my life to their stories about earning their teaching degrees, as well as the joys and woes of their years of teaching.…
