Calorie Intake
I love delicious food and despise anything contrary to that. The one thing that is so dangerous about me loving good food is the fact that, everything that looks good isn’t always good for me, like my mom used to say. In this assignment I am about to see just how good or not good the foods I enjoy are good for me, as I count my calorie intake and grams of fat I ingest daily.
I have used three items from breakfast, lunch and dinner to analyze their fat and protein content based on their calories
The first item is:
1. Aunt Jemima Pan Cake Mix
1a. It was a 32oz box of pancake mix, the fat content was 2% per serving, and 5 grams of protein per serving. After analyzing the fat and the protein contents, based on the calories and the formula used in the text here is what I came up with.
Fat Contents
Step 1. I multiplied the fat contents by 9:
2 X 9 = 18 calories
Step 2. Next I divided my answer by the total calories, which was 160, then multiplied the answer by 100:
(18/160) X 100 =
0.1125 X 100 = 11.25%

Protein Contents
Step 1. I used the same equation, except for this time I multiplied the protein contents by 4.
5 X 4 = 20 calories
Step 2. Divide the answer by the total number of calories, then multiply by 100 again.
(20/160) X 100 =
0.125 X 100 = 12.5%

The second item is:
2. Campbell’s Home Style Chicken Noodle Soup
2a. It was a 10 ½ oz. can, the fat contents were 2% per serving, and the protein contents were 3 grams per serving. After analyzing the fat and protein contents based on calories and using the formula in the text here are my answers.

Fat Contents
Step 1. Multiply the fat contents by 9:
2 X 9 = 18 calories
Step 2. Next divide the answer by the total number of calories, which is 60 in this case, then multiply your answer by 100:
(18/60) X 100 =
0.3 X 100 = 30%
Protein Contents
Step 1. Multiply protein contents by 4:
3 X 4 = 12 calories
Step 2. Next divide protein contents by the number of calories, which is 60 once

Food industry misleads us by calculating the fat content in packaged food on “weight basis” whereas the fat content (having to do more with the calorific value of a food item and not its weight) actually has to be calculated on the basis of the calorie value of the food item. So, the “calorie basis” is what has to be applied to know how much fat our food items actually carry. Here are three interesting eye-openers!!…
