Buttercup Monologue
This is my cat ‘‘Buttercup’’. You might wonder: Why that name? Well, when I founded him, it was unavoidable to match his muddy yellow coat with the bright flower. He had a mashed-in nose, half of one ear missing and eyes the color of rotting squash. According to my older sister, Katniss, Buttercup was the world’s ugliest cat but it did not matter, because I knew that in the bottom of her heart she was starting to love him. Besides, he was a great help at home, for he was a born mouser. So, we did not have vermin problems anymore. Furthermore, Buttercup was very special for me; he made me feel safe when I had nightmares during the

In the novel by William Goldman, the character Buttercup is a 17 year old girl who comes off naive, rude, arrogant and rather clueless to other’s feelings or intentions towards her. For example she is rude to the farm boy, Westley in the beginning. Buttercup does not know that she has offended other girls in her village because the boys have noticed her beauty that she clearly does not see. However, despite her flaws, she is rather charming. She is a tomboy by heart and only cares to ride horses all day long and boss around Westley. She is naïve in the sense that she does not understand how someone could care if she were the most beautiful woman in the world or not. What difference could it have made if you were only the third most beautiful.…

It’s always been true that people everywhere love to talk. Especially when it’s about other people. Technically, people have no common sense while they’re talking about other people and their mediocre lives and won’t step back look at your own lives and be like “Wow, maybe I shouldn’t talk about be so hostile because I’m not Queen/King of the world.” Even if they think about it just a little, the’re not going to stop because they don’t think it’s going to fire back on them. You know what’s that called?…

When the carriage stopped in front of the townhouse, Boudreaux bid us a good night, and informed us, I felt more for me, than Louis, that he was leaving first thing next morning and traveling to his plantation to oversee the planting. We wished him well and parted ways. I felt Boudreaux’s eyes on me as we walked inside. After we went inside, Louis said that he wished he had told Ransom that he was leaving within the week and going back to Barbados; the unrest there was threatening the cane crop. Although I would miss my husband, I breathed a sigh of relief that he would not be home long and that he had not told Boudreau.…

It was a hot afternoon and i was setting by the river thinking when i saw my boy sam running towards me like his behind was on fire. His face looked frightened, so much like his father’s. He said that Mr. Finch and Cal just drove into our yard in those fancy automobiles that costs way too much. My heart started beating so fast but i still had hope. He could be here because they realized Tom was innocent and he was finally coming home to us. When i got to my home, I saw my children playing a game with their marbles. I saw Mr. Finch standing there with a look of sorrow on his face. He looked at me with regret. He didn't have to say anything because i just knew, I just knew he was gone. My knees gave out all of a sudden, I collapsed to the dirt. I wished that the ground would swallow me up. I was not strong for this, i'm still not. I held back my screams that will break out any minute. I have to put a straight face for my kids, i’m all they have now.…
