Introduction
The primary objective of this report is to provide a financial performance analysis of Marks & Spencer group plc. This will be achieved by a detailed ratio analysis on financial data available in latest annual report of the company for the year ended March-2013. The attention during ratio analysis will be on horizontal and vertical analysis as well as the comparison of these ratios with the industry. Moreover, the report will also give a brief business analysis of the company.
Reason of selecting the company
Marks & Spencer is a large company listed on various stock markets, which a widely spread operations in many countries. The size of operations of the company and high reputation in the industry convinced me to select this company for the purpose of this report. Further the information about the company including financial information, press releases and news are readily available.
Company porifle
Marks and Spencer is a British multinational retailer, employed almost 82 thousand employees, operated from London, United Kingdome. It has 766 stores in the United Kingdom and 418 stores reached more than 50 countries across Europe, Middle East and Asia. M&S specializes in the selling of clothing and luxury food products. It offers clothing and home products, as well as foods, sourced from around 2,000 suppliers globally. The company is also increasingly selling through e-commerce using marksandspencer.com website.

In 2011, M&S started stores in India .
M&S become more multinational by increased its operations overseas in France, Philippines and China and increased its revenue from international operations from £967 million to £1,075 million over three year period.
In May 2011, M&S has done corporate revamp by increasing promotion budget and launching different store format based on age, affluence and demography of people.
