Task 1
After successfully completing my first year on my business course I have been given a work placement within Debenhams. During my work experience placement I have investigated the different types of information that exist within Debenhams as it relies on keeping this up to date and valid.
Communication skills include face to face conversation, telephonic conversation, interviews, group discussions, meetings, speeches etc. Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions or emotions by two or more persons talking to each other and understanding. Communication is only successful when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information because of the communication. By successfully getting your message across, you convey your thoughts and ideas effectively. When not successful, the thoughts and ideas that you actually send do not necessarily reflect what you think, causing a communications breakdown. Being able to communicate effectively is therefore essential if you want to build a successful career.
Verbal Information
Debenhams use verbal information through the sales advisors and employees, persuading customers to buy products and to also open accounts. Verbal information is very important within a business, in order to communicate with the staff and customers.
Written information
Debenhams use written information for contracts between employer and employee, health and safety documents. These documents ensure clarity among employees and minimize the chance for any misunderstanding. Employers may also issue dress policy or personal conduct guidelines for employees to better ensure proper behaviour. Written warnings are also used to enforce certain policies in the workplace. An employee will likely change his behaviour when employers document infractions with letters and he faces possible termination for noncompliance.
