Bus 508,• the Entrepreneurial Spirit Fuels Growth in the U.S. Economy. from the E-Activity, Discuss the Founder’s Vision for the Company and How It Has Been Realized over the Years.
The company I chose; was Shih’s floral, located in Beverly Hills, California. Marty and Helen Shih, immigrants from Taiwan, was determined to succeed. They were a set of hardworking immigrant entrepreneurs. In 1979, the Shih’s sold flowers on Los Angeles street corner; from a former cigarette stand they had borrowed. On their first day they only earned $1.99. The Shih’s weren’t discouraged by the amount they earn for a days’ work. They stayed focused. In order to earn more money; they would have to relocate to a new location. They decided to sale their flowers inside the lobby of a professional building. They would work 16 to 18-hour days. When the Shih’s sold flowers to their clients; they would write down their customers special occasions to increase the sale revenue.
They didn’t use computers to remember the dates or occasions. They used a generic notebook. Finally, when they could afford to use a source of technology; they created a database to send their customers reminders of events, birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. They delivered the flowers by mopeds. It saved time and gas. It helped to keep the cost down and the profits high. It also allowed them to offer speedy deliveries using their method of transportation. In Los Angeles, it’s difficult to get to a location; because of the amount of vehicles on the highways and roads.
With this strategy and tactic; they had enough knowledge and currency to open their first florist shop in Beverly Hills. To keep cost low; they offered standardized floral designs. Today, they have a chain of florist shops. They have also created the Asian American Association, which markets products to Asian Americans and provide counseling to other companies who want to enter into the market.

Until the 1880s, most of the immigrants had come from the British Isles and Western Europe (Germany and Scandinavia) and were quite literate and accustomed to some type of representative government. This was called the “Old Immigration.” But by the 1880s and 1890s, this shifted to the Baltic and Slavic people of southeastern Europe, who were basically the opposite, “New Immigration.” Many Europeans came to America because there was no room in Europe, nor was there much employment, since industrialization had eliminated many jobs. The “nativism” and anti-foreignism of the 1840s and 1850s came back in the 1880s, as the Germans and western Europeans looked down upon the new Slavs and Baltics, fearing that a mixing of…

Even in 1882 alone, 788,992 migrants arrived in America, which is more than 2,100 people per day. Immigrants that came before the 1880’s were usually from the British Isles and from western Europe, mainly Germany and Scandinavia. They were mostly Anglo Saxon and Protestant. Also many were very intelligent and had a high literacy rate. They were also used to a representative government. Many of these immigrants came to America to farm. Basically these immigrants were easily able to adapt to American life. The immigration of this time, known as old immigration, was very different from the immigration that occurred from the 1880’s and…

According to Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, immigrants long have been part of the American landscape, reflecting our country's values and traditions. During the last decade the Midwest has seen a resurgence of its long-established tradition of immigration. Nine of twelve Midwest states had foreign-born populations that grew faster than the national average during the 1990s. Many can argue that immigration density in our population has reached its peak over the past decade. And many are right. A survey conducted in 2013 by the U.S. Census Bureau showed that about 13% of our massive 316 million U.S. resident population are foreign-born and have immigrated here from a different country. That’s roughly 1 in every 7 people, so it’s needless to say that America makes up the world’s most diverse ethnic stew. Everywhere from the hot and sunny lands of Mexico to the humid and rainy Japan, the free and opportunistic culture of the United States is a land that attracts families from all around the world, leaving its golden gates open to those who wish to thrive in the fantastic life ahead of them. Many believe that these incoming families, primarily those who produce the income, provide an extraordinary boost to our economy and pave the way for a blooming America. It is difficult to justify that immigrant families have had…
