Buettner Longevity
America’s standard of longevity is basic common sense, eat good, stay away from processed foods, stay active-both physically and mentally, laugh more, etc. But Buettner, the author of “How To Live To Be 100+” doesn’t stop there, he has studied different forms of life around the world to find the perfect formula for longevity. Taking his team to Sardinia, Okinawa, and Loma Linda, California depicting and watching how these people live daily. They all seem to have the same thing in common; Working out isn’t something they drag themselves to the gym to do, they live it, exercise is a part of their lifestyle. Also, eating some form of a plant based diet with no processed or preserved food. Lastly, they all have their form of “sanctuary time”, either …show more content…
Buettner’s basic principles of living to 100+ are very effective because it goes in depth of what our body truly needs to succeed by finding the formula of longevity, choosing the right diets and exercise, and finding the right habits to live by.
First, describing the process of finding a blue zone Buettner agrees to finding a formula, you have to go out and do it yourself, demonstrating by bringing demographically teams of experts to methodically go through exactly what these people do. One thing he doesn’t describe is how his teams go about doing that. What method does Buettner use to analyze these people?
Basically, Soriano, Vazquez, Carretero, Gonzalez, and Romaguera (2014) believe to have found a blue zone around Es Migjorn Gran, Menorca Spain and explains their methods. First a

I don’t believe Buettner’s viewpoint on obesity, that's basically saying that you have to cut yourself off from certain social activities to save yourself from eating non processed food.
He also pushes the fact that you need to be a part of some form of religion to pursue longevity.
What if being in some form of religion isn't for you? Rishikesan and Subramanya (2016) who assess the effects of yoga on humans agrees that yoga can relieve stress and reduce obesity rates

all in its own. If religions are to extroverted for you, there are other ways of reducing stress levels such as meditation or being around others who enjoy the same thing you do.
In conclusion, Buettner's basic principles and beliefs of longevity are authentic and if I had to change my lifestyle to live to 100+ I would. I already participate in physical activities every day, eat fairly healthy, associate myself with encouraging people, take a day off (on
Sunday), and partake in religion. I don’t fully agree with his statement on obesity, but he does bring up a good point for if you're not self-disciplined, temptation could get to you if you don't live the same lifestyle as your friends. Eating healthy and pushing yourself to stay active

Why I Hope To Die At 75

Emanuel states 2 different points, “Living too long/death is a loss.”(75). Death can contribute the way others remember you and the impact you made on their lives. Death can deprive you from the people you love and time spent. Living too long on the other hand, leaves a negative impact as well because there are terminally ill individuals out there who need the good, compassionate death so they would no longer suffer being alive and having the illness drag them down. Therefore, living in that condition seems far worse than death. Emanuel also states, “I am not advocating 75 as the official statistic of a complete, good life in order to save resources, ration health care, or address public policy issues arising from the increases in life expectancy.” (81). He wants individuals to reach out for the health care opportunities as much as they can so they won’t suffer. Evolution also enables us to live even longer. He questions, “Is making money, chasing the dream, all worth it?” Emanuel advocates living a complete life and gaining satisfaction. Emanuel currently wants to spend his time enjoying himself while he’s still healthy.…
