BSHS/305 – Introduction to Human Services

Working as a Helper Introduction. The motivational reasoning for people to take on a lifelong career in human services depends on the individual. There are different motivational reasons, of course, but they can be narrowed down to three major categories. The desire to work as a helper, desire for self exploration, and exerting control within society are the most recognized reasons of motivation. The next five paragraphs support the notion that the women in Learning Team “B” have different, (yet very similar) reasons for joining the human services force.

I chose the helping field because I want to help others that are in need. People often procrastinate when trying to help themselves, and are afraid of being judged. I want to show the world that it is okay if you have a problem; everyone has issues. I want to give them all of the advice, love, resources and whatever it takes to get the clients back in shape and get them back to their prior state of being.

As I thought about this, repeatedly, I came up with the thought of being a person that can be helpful over all. I not only want to help children but I would like to help adults also. I felt that I could become a social worker and many other things. I know that I can make a great change in my community and surrounding areas. I chose this field because I have always had a passion of helping others and learning new things, because each person always brings something new to the
