Bruce Wayne Journey
After 10 years of retirement, Bruce Wayne is having a hard time suppressing the inner voices that call out for Batman to return the world of fighting crime. As the Mutants rapidly consume Gotham City with violence, Bruce Wayne’s internal struggle to restrain Batman becomes increasingly harder. With police officers failing to protect their citizens, Bruce Wayne is faced with the decision of unleashing Batman to save Gotham City or letting the city become overrun by the Mutants. In both the graphic novel written by Frank Miller and movie directed by Jay Oliva titled The Dark Knight Returns, Bruce Wayne’s hiatus from Batman causes him inner turmoil which creates a breakdown that leads to the return of Batman. The two mediums show differently how Bruce Wayne journeyed back to Batman.

While meeting with Police Commissioner James Gordon, he comments on Wayne’s drinking “You and that ginger ale...pretending it was champagne. Made up for those lost years” as multiple empty glasses lay in front of them and a waitress brings over fresh ones throughout the scene. Not only is age a factor in Wayne retirement but Wayne has learned to suppress Batman by drinking alcohol. When speaking of Batman coming back Gordon advises “Things are different, the government, the public, they wouldn't stand for you anymore”. Wayne must weigh the possibility of returning to a generation of people who don’t believe in him or believe that his is just a myth. Later Bruce Wayne sits down to watch television but instead is traumatized by the horrendous murders of children. This triggers the voice of Batman stretching from the depths of restraint egging him the breaking free. Regardless if he has Gotham City on his side or not he unleashes Batman to take his city back from the Mutants and other
