Brief Summary Of The Episode 'The Bubble'
Parks and Recreation creators Greg Daniels and Michael Schur put a humorous spin on the realistic problems management imposes on its employees through its episode “The Bubble,” Season Three, Episode Fifteen. In this episode, Chris, the new manager, has come in and drastically changed the office, causing the workers to hate their jobs when before they enjoyed them. This hatred for the job came about because they were forced to perform differently than they were used to. Ron, someone who did not interact with others, was forced out of his private cubicle and placed into a “donut desk” in the middle of the main office, making him accessible to citizens who came in to voice a concern. In an unforgettable scene, Ron is seen “swiveling” away from a concerned citizen as she chases him around the desk to get him to stop and pay her attention. He was forced to sit in that kind of desk, not because he wanted to, but because management made him, allowing him better interact with the citizens so they could feel as if they are being heard. As a result of Ron being on display in the middle of the office, he had to put on a facade that showed he loved his job and cared about the citizens of Pawnee, regardless if that is what he really felt (Parks and Recreation). They enforce unobtainable requirements on their workers causing them choose between keeping their sanity or their job. In the Parks and Recreation episode, many people were close to quitting because they could not take the stress of having to confine to the new ways of the office.
