Boston High School Life
Getting adjusted to living and going to school in Boston has been one of the biggest yet greatest changes of my life. Being a part of the city has always been a big dream of mine, and now I get to live it. My medium-sized suburb in southern Maine will always have a place in my heart, but I also believe that it will be a source of pain for me. I tried to find myself in high school only to be influenced by the people who I thought were my friends only to be betrayed and left. At Simmons, my goal is to fully be myself and find who I am without any interruptions from outside forces-whether that's people, situations, or my past. There are so many things in my life right now that I'm beyond grateful for. Getting accustomed to living in Boston hasn't been as big of a struggle for me as I thought it would be. I love the sounds of the city outside my dorm, even if the car honks and ambulance sirens can be a little obnoxious at times. Just being here and being open to meeting new people makes me feel accomplished, like I've finally overcome the obstacle of my past shyness and worrying about others' thoughts of me. Part of me knows that if my senior year of high school …show more content…
I understand that. Every once and a while I get a pit in my stomach when I think of the people I've left behind and how I truly don't know how they're coping. That's probably the hardest part of being away from all I've ever known. Although I know the supports available to me at Simmons, I don't remember how to reach out if I were to want counseling. I'm not exactly sure if I have to make an appointment first or just drop in. I've been told that counseling is good for every one, regardless of what things have happened/are happening in your life and I've been thinking that maybe I should try it at least once. I'd also like to know how to find a tutor in the tutoring center since I feel like I'll need one for french

I worked so hard to get at this moment. Only thing that keeps coming into mind is how upset I am that I ruined my chance of graduating with honors only because I wanted to try to be part of a family that I would always feel accepted, only to feel the same, at the same time ruining my GPA that in turn ruined my chance of graduating with honors even though I had received only A’s some B’s since entering my social work major. I hoped for an acknowledgment for my hard work all these six years and only have the graduation to be shown. This is why it will be a happy day for me to leave Missouri Western. It means the end of an era and beginning of a new one.…

The high school has given me all types of opportunities from discipline to study options and also preparing me for college and the real world. I’s truly grateful for all the supports given to get this far because high school helped changed and mold me to become the young lady that I is today. It helped further my education and I continue to pray to the lord above that I can stay on track because only God knows where I’m headed with this education; but for sure it’s for a better me. Hopefully my years at Concordia will be the years of…

Have you ever been 1,376.1 miles from home? I have - 2 years ago. 2 years ago I went to Carbondale, Colorado. I was only 15 and had never been that far away from my friends, family, and home. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been exposed to so many wonderful experiences, opportunities, and cultures. I remember when I first received the email officially accepting me into the High School High Scholar (HS)2 Program. All I could do was think of all of the fun I was going to have and try to imagine how beautiful it was going to be. I started to imagine all of the dreams and possibilities that I had accomplished as of that moment. I realized that my future was actually in my hands. There were so many questions and things I was uncertain about. There were so many people I forgot that I was going to miss. There were so many things I wasn’t ready to leave or say goodbye to.…

After the first semester of college I knew that the person I was then would never have completed school and that the blame and excuses I found through the years no longer served a purpose. I have achieved so much personal growth in the past two years and learned and experienced my courses in ways I could never have understood or comprehended…

Before I came to Randolph-Macon, I was narrow-minded, not social, and was against coming out of my comfort zone. My mindset before coming to college was that I could come to college for 4 years, coming home almost every weekend, and go right back home and work on the water or work in the office of my parent’s clam and oyster company. Now I have broadened my horizons and see myself doing so much more with my life. Making it through that terrible first week of college, I realized I could make it through anything and handle anything life threw to at…

I was the type of student to do the bare minimum and do whatever it takes just to get by. Going into this senior year I thought it was going to be a breeze but I've been wrong before. This senior year has taught me that if I want to be successful in my life then I need to give it my all just like Jesus commanded us too. This past summer I started to look into colleges I would be interested in playing football for. I found a few schools in Wisconsin that interested me so me and my mother drove 28 hours in a Prius to go visit 4 schools. During the trip I realized that college is closer than it seems. College is not just something we dream of one day but it is the next step in our lives. I am extremely excited for what God holds for me in the future and am ready to face life's challenges. High school is a lot of pressure but we all will look back one day and remember the good times of it. I am very thankful for the people in my life that have made me the man I am today. Finding the right college is going to a hard decision but I know God will put me at the place I need to be an I am very excited wherever that is going to…

The memory of my first big move is still fresh in my mind. I remember rushing to school, excited to tell my friends the news: I was moving from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona! After I brought my friends up to date, I proudly displayed my new disposable camera. Together we took many pictures, some of them meaningful and some comical. There were pictures of myself smiling and giggling with my friends and some of my teacher’s feet. As the moving date was slowly approaching, I began to feel resentment. I started hating the idea of moving to a new unknown place where I would have no friends. As it turned out, making new friends was not as hard as I thought because I was younger and I chose my friends superficially. However, I did have to learn to adapt to a new school and curriculum. I was not…

It took me 2 ½ years, a downtown campus, and a writing assignment to come to this conclusion, but at the end of everything, despite the inconvenience I insisted moving caused, these migrations have guided the development of my outlook on life and my broad sense of identity. I may get anxious, or angry, or unsure, but I know that so long as I can cope, things can and probably will improve. I learned that endings make room for beginnings, and no matter how I perceive a situation, everything is a learning experience. Migration has taught me that I must depend on myself to know who I am and make my life…

For most teenagers knowing who you are or who you are going to be will come to you at an early age. During high school you fit in a certain group of friends or fail to meet their expectations and happen to become someone a bit under the totem poll. Eckert’s findings explained that the cause of a teen’s social life could be influenced by one’s financial status which therefore sets the path of a child’s social standing even as an adolescent. The study focuses on the importance of a family’s role such as the parents and ones personal beliefs that will define who they will be and eventually grow up to be as an adult. In the reading you will see that Eckert’s gives examples from each social norm of what a Jock or a Burnout are portrayed in high school and how they fit in with certain criteria that defines who they are individually and collectively.…

Moving to a new place can be quite intimidating; however, it is a completely fresh start especially concerning my move to NMH from North Carolina. Similar to my move Nkem’s move to the United States from Nigeria in the chapter “Imitation” in Adichie’s The Thing Around Your Neck is a completely fresh start that she had great expectations for expressed by her excitement when joining the “Rich Nigerian Men Who Sent Their Wives to America”(26) League. I was also filled with excitement like Nkem knowing I was moving to an elite league of people who go to prep school. Nkem and I experience many similar aspects of moving to a new place especially the changes we both made to fit in while still staying true to our roots.…

Life is an interesting journey full of unforeseen situations that can alter our initial plans. During my years in high school my parents always reminded me of the importance of aspiring to be the best I could be and, as a result, I would be able to accomplish anything. I took their words to heart. I studied hard, performed extremely well and finished with a 3.5 GPA and in the top 25 percent of my high school class. I was the recipient of many scholarships and awards and was part of many extracurricular activities as well. I even made time for my new job at Walgreens as a beauty advisor. I was extremely delighted to see that my hard work had paid off and I was finally on my way to college.…

Nearing the end of my senior year is pretty bitter sweet. On one hand I'm very excited to finally be done and able to move on to the next chapter of my life. But on the other, I'm nervous that soon I will be out on my own and having to support myself. High school gives you memories that you will never forget, whether they are good ones or bad. When I look back on the last three and a half years I spent at Peoria, there are many life lessons I have learned and experienced that come to mind, such as being myself, taking responsibility, making decisions, and planning for my future.…

Gas prices have climbed to an alarmingly high price range and at a very fast rate. To help ease the burden placed on consumers by the high gas prices, congress said we have to set price ceiling. Many people are concerned that price ceilings will create shortages. To help with the possibility of any gas shortages, we at the DOE have created a ranking system to allocate gas. We have divided consumers into three groups: high, medium, and low priority groups. With price ceilings and our allocation method all Americans will have enough gas for their need. High priority is the one who need more gas, such as public safety, truckers, and public transit. And they should have all the gas they want.…
