The Border Collie is an outstanding dog breed. They thrive on work and have long been one of the most popular herding breeds. They were bred to work all day herding sheep. Furthermore, Border Collie’s are extremely athletic and agile, making them excel in all dog sports. The Border Collie is continually recognized as one of the smartest dog breeds. Border Collies have a very distinct appearance. They have an extremely athletic structure. A very important characteristic of the Border Collie is it’s keen, alert, intelligent, and full of interest expression. Usually, Border Collie’s have big brown eyes that can vary in color. The typical lifespan of the Border Collie is 12 to 15 years. Since Border Collies are so active and love outdoors their long coat tends to pick up debris. Border Collies need to have plenty of exercise otherwise they can become bored and find their own things to do and these things can be destructive. As far as health is concerned, the Border Collie is generally healthy. Although, there are a few health concerns. A major health concern is CHD, canine hip dysplasia, this is an abnormal formation of the hip socket (Hip). The best herding dogs were bred together in the border country between England and Scotland. The dog’s appearance varied depending on the regions where they came from. Eventually the herding dog became associated with the certain regions where they came from. Border Collie’s were known as Welsh Sheepdogs, Highland Collies, Northern Sheepdogs, and Scotch Collies depending on their region.
