I have been reading the book "Boost" by Kathy Mackel. The book is about the main character and narrator, Savannah Christopher, Savvy for short, and her older sister, Callie. Savvy and Callie are both athletic girls, but conflicts with their sport make them want to boost their game. In the book, Savvy is trying out for a 18U team, Fire, at the age of 13 with her friend, Nina Gonzalez. Meanwhile her sister Callie is a freshmen trying out for the varsity cheerleading team. I predict that because Savvy is a really good player, the older players will push her around. I also think her sister will get troubled with cheerleading on her size because it is mentioned how she sits on her iPod to listen to music all day and eat junk food. I think that since both sisters are very serious in their sports, they want to be as best as they can, they will do anything to improve their game. I predict that they will most likely incorporate drugs to their game. Most likely they will take steroids. I say steroids because athletes that take drugs usually take steroids because it makes them stronger and be their best at their game temporarily. I believe that Savvy and Callie using drugs to enhance their game will leave them ending up to be sick and eventually hospitalized since they are very young and will proboable become addicted from taking drugs. This act of taking steroids for the girls game will also jeopardize their relationship with their friends and family from being caught with the drugs. I think Savvy will lose her closest friend, Nina Gonzalez, whom plays on the same team as her. In the book "Boost", the two sisters, Savvy and Callie will get into a lot of trouble from their steroid use from their coaches and school supervisors as well. I think Callie's coach will ban her from the cheer team, and the school from the principle. I predict that Savvy's coach will also ban her from the team, but Savvy will probably apologize and making it up greatly to the coach and her

Stevie and Susan, only 15 years old, were now the most well known sportswriters and the heroes of the U.S. Open mystery. I would obviously recommend this book to young readers who enjoy sports, but not only sports fans would enjoy this. Mystery enthusiasts will love thrillers and books that have a different twist on each page would be fond of this book as well. The main thing I learned from reading this book is people will go to extreme measures for money, even if that means doing illegal…

The latter did after the head coach was fired and replaced with Pia. Pia was an upbeat coach she sung to us during practice and was always happy.…

The title of this book relates to the story, because in the book, Ponyboy and Johnny are "outsiders." They can be thought of as Outsiders because they are labeled Greasers although they do not act like hoodlums, like the rest of the Greasers. They are thought of as Greasers just because they live on the East Side of town, and because they slick back their hair. But Ponyboy and Johnny are different then all of the other Greasers because they show their emotions, and are sensitive.…

Sports, in many ways, affect us mentally just like it affected the actions of the kids at Devon. Finny views athletics as an "absolute good," and throughout A Separate Peace, athletic contests represent an alternative to war. Like war, sports involve opposing sides and intent on victory, but unlike war sporting events lack the casualties common to the battlefield. Finny's perspective on sports is exactly the opposite of his views on the war. He sees war as a construct invented by governments, a conflict where everyone loses, while he believes "everyone always won at sports," which gives athletics a "perfect beauty." The novel supports Finny's ideas most powerfully by depicting Gene's experience while training for the Olympics. The intense training…

The novel little girls in pretty boxes by Joan Ryan challenged me in more ways than one. It was hard to read about the sport I love get exposed horrifically. The title explains it all, little girls who have big dreams turned into robots and stuffed into society’s image of “perfect”. One who never contributed to the sport in one way or another does not understand the grueling process of becoming everything the coaches and parents would want you to be.…

Kody Scott grew up in South Central L.A. during the nineteen-sixties and seventies, soon after the creation of the Crips. Raised in poverty without a father, and a full family raised solely by his mother, Kody Scott led the stereotypical "ghetto" life, a poor and broken home. However he does not blame this on his own personal decision to join the Crips while only eleven year's old. The allure of the respect and "glory" that "bangers" got, along with the unity of the "set"(name for the specific gang) is what drew him into the gang. Once joined, he vowed to stay in the "set" for life, and claimed that banging was his life. After many years of still believing this, he eventually realized that the thug life was no longer for him, and that gangs were a problem on society and the "Afrikan" race(page 382-383).…

Morality is the distinction between what is right and what is wrong. In the world of sports there is no place for immorality that would damage the fairness of the competition. Cheating through ways such as the use of performance enhancing drugs can harm the integrity of the game. Since the 1960’s athletes have been using drugs to enhance their abilities. In the past fifteen years, the number of known athletes using these performance enhancing drugs has increased considerably. Two of the top athletes in their respective games, Lance Armstrong and Maria Sharapova, have revealed that during their career they each used performance enhancing drugs. This brings to question their morals and the successful careers they and many other have…

Numerous court cases involve drug use by minors, specifically in dealing with teenagers. While drug use can often run rampant in schools, the drug culture in schools is often centered around the school’s athletics program. As such, many schools around the nation adopted a drug testing program in order to make sure teens trying out for teams are clean, and athletes stay clean. Drug use is popular in these athletics programs often for both recreational use, such as marijuana, and to give them an edge in their sport through performance enhancing drugs such as anabolic steroids.…
