Blood Diamond
Blood Diamond is a movie that portrays the brutalities experienced by the people in Africa especially those who work in the diamond fields. It was set during the Sierra Leone Civil War in 1999. A fisherman named Solomon Vandy was captured by the rebels and was force to work in a diamond field. While working, he found a very rare pink diamond. He decided to hide it but the leader named Commander Poison saw him. Luckily he managed to escape because the government troops attack the field. He was brought in prison where Commander Poison keeps on shouting at him to give up the diamond. Danny Archer, an Anglo ex-mercenary from Rhodesia who was caught smuggling diamonds, heard the conversation. He helped Solomon’s release from prison and promised to help find Solomon’s family in exchange for the diamond. They were now set to a quest to find the diamond that can both change their lives. Later in the movie, they found out that Solomon’s son Dia was captured and brainwash by the RUF. They tried to save Dia and escape but Archer was shot and was unable to proceed. He told Solomon to go on with out him and gave them the diamond. He called Maddy Bowen, a journalist and also his love interest, for a favor and took one good look at his homeland before he dies. Solomon traded his diamond for the money and his family to Van De Kaap, executive of a South African Diamond Company, and his deputy Simmons. Bowen recorded the whole transaction. The story of their journey was published in her magazine before addressing a conference on Blood Diamond.
