Blindspot Muppet Analysis

Last week I watched Blindspot on NBC and The Muppets on ABC to see if the new shows were worth all the hype. For those who don’t want to read the post, I thought that Blindspot was intriguing, though not my favorite show, and I was completely unimpressed with The Muppets. However, one episode, especially the pilot, should not make or break a show, so this week I gave them both a second chance. While my overall opinion of Blindspot didn’t change all that much, my view of The Muppets rose slightly.
Blindspot – This week’s episode started with another tattoo being deciphered on Jane’s body, the clue being unlocked by the information from the tattoo last episode. This leads them to Arthur Gibson, a former airmen who worked for the drone program …show more content…
She is in a state, depicted as a whirlwind in the writers’ room, and Scooter reminds Kermit that the People’s Choice Awards are coming up and Piggy doesn’t have a date. This leads Kermit on the hunt to find someone to accompany her to the awards show. Jeff Goldblum and Keanu Reeves are considered, but both are rejected before Josh Groban is suggested and brought on the show to introduce him to Piggy. Piggy comes back the next day in a wonderful mood, but soon Groban starts offering suggestions through Piggy about how the show should run. None of the suggestions go over well. Meanwhile, Fozzy goes to a party at Jay Leno’s house and it so excited that he steals a candy dish as a memento. Kermit says that he is going to get Piggy to break up with Groban to save the show, but the rest of the crew refuses because she is being so nice to everyone. Kermit goes ahead with the plan, but Josh answers Piggy’s dressing room door after a brief argument Josh closes the door on him. Kermit finally devises the plan that he will put Josh Groban’s name on the show, which takes the spotlight away from Piggy, and that leads to the breakup. The show ends with Jay Leno finding out that Fozzy stole the candy dish, which he stole for George Carlin, and telling him that they are no longer …show more content…
While there were a few questionable jokes, such as Piggy flying into a rage by finding out her dress size and using feminism as a tactic to get Miss Piggy to break up with Josh Groban, it wasn’t as depressing as the first episode. The whole Fozzy storyline was more in line with what you expect from the Muppets and was a good balance to the Kermit and Piggy drama. Pepe having no shame in saying that he was attracted to Josh Groban and that gender is fluid also counterbalanced the comments about Piggy not know her own age or weight. Josh Groban was pretty great in this episode, especially when he says Kermit “wouldn’t the world be a bit better if everyone was a bit more like me?” The weed joke about the Electric Dream Machine was on the grown-up side, but it is something that everyone has talked about since the Muppets have been around so I didn’t have a problem with it. They just need to make Kermit a bit happier, the joke about waking up to the sound of his alarm instead of his screams was a bit depressing, but this episode was a huge improvement from the pilot. For me, the show still feels a bit like a platform for ABC to showcase their stars. This episode featured Josh Groban, Jay Leno, Laurence Fishburne, and Lea Thompson, which is a lot of stars for thirty minutes. However, there is promising upward trend from the pilot to this episode.
