Muppet Vs Marionette Analysis
The Muppets are a worldwide household name. It is all due to the famous Jim Henson, but most people do not know about other puppets such as the marionette and the uber-marionettes. Some people even prefer these puppets over human actors, but there are some essential differences between the two. Just like there are differences between the Muppets and the marionettes. Even though the Muppets are not the ideal of the ubermarionette, they are still a good replacement for human actors according to Craig’s and Kleist’s arguments.

One aspect that Craig says that actors need to be without is feeling, when he stated “The actions of the actor’s body, the expression of his face, the sounds of his voice, all are at the mercy of the winds of his emotion”(Craig, 55). This is illustrating that based on his emotions, that is how he will perform. This is accurate because, you do not have to be a dancer to be affected by your emotions. If you feel sad, then of course you are not going to be able to do everything to the best of your ability. Kleist also reiterated that when he says that the performance should be performed without emotion(Kleist, 179). This is important because, puppets do not feel emotions they are inanimate objects. In that case if you were feeling some type of emotion, it could not be shown in the puppet.
