In year 12 i was given the chance to do work experience in a pharmacy for my first year. This experience enabled me to get an insight in the pharmaceutical side of medicine. Where I had gained a variety of skills. As i was able to administer medicine. Here i observed and learnt the processes that occurred in this particular career such as the making of the drugs and the chemistry that was involved behind it. In year 13 i explored; being able to be a laboratory technician in a local hospital where i had seen how work was conducted in the hospital laboratories. Although not directly involved in any medical activities, i was still able to analyse laboratory procedures and how doctors and laboratory technicians worked together to provide necessary treatment for their patients. Having so much work experience in the field that links within biomedical science. I have faith, i would achieve the most in my academic years at

I was introduced to the field I am interested in from my 9th grade biology class. Prior to the course, I had never taken biology or any science, for that matter, that had captured my attention such as this year-long experience. I was intrigued by the subject and fascinated with all the advances in society that have been made by scientists throughout the years. The possibility of being able to do this in the future kept me engaged and I further pursued this interest by currently taking AP Biology. In addition, I was inspired by the change that scientists can make through research and…

This demonstrates my commitment and capability to cope with challenging situations and be an effective team member. A hospital placement was an invaluable experience as I witnessed medical synchronisation by shadowing medics and how they form the backbone of science. My core subjects inspired me to do an EPQ on 'Can engineering help with the early diagnosis of dementia?'. My EPQ draws on many aspects, such as how advances in medical imagery can help diagnose Alzheimer's disease earlier. Being a future ambassador of STEM and taking part in organisations like the 'Stemmettes' and 'WISE' has shown me that University will give me the tools to succeed in the biomedical industry. Through workshops I participated and had created 3D simulations and built artificial organs using technology and understood the necessity of using mathematical models to develop drugs. Being involved in the 'BP Day' allowed me to demonstrate practical and creative skills which in turn led me to win the title of 'Modern muse challenge for most original innovated designer for an app'. I was able to network with professionals, in particular…

To me my backyard was a forest to discover and with a magnifying glass and my Rockhound Guide I would set off each day to discover something new. When I was in eight grade I made the wrong choice of picking a baking class, after the fist semester I transferred into an all boys robotics class. Where I quickly climbed to the top and created things like a dog who did seven different tricks to a classic battle bot that conquered everyones else’s robot. I fell in love with biology my freshman year and quickly gained a knack for organic chemistry. Then my sophomore year I took chemistry which I hope to take again my senior year as an AP course. Now that Im a junior and taking AP biology, I've found a liking in forensic biology and Im actually turn our lab into a real life mock crime scene where I will show fellow classmates how to run DNA in electrophoresis and test blood samples. Now if I were to get this internship it would make huge difference in my science career. First it would give me the hands on experience I want in a lab. It would also further my love for science, because I would hope to do research on DNA, specifically…

I have been interested in science and math since I was reading books with science experiments in second grade. Applying math and science skills to solve everyday problems has intrigued me from an early age. I am always curious about how things work. Since taking AP Physics this year, I have been able to appreciate how math and science work together. I have taken other rigorous courses, but often it felt like learning math was isolated from other coursework. Math challenges me to problem solve and think at a higher level. I also love science, but until I took AP Physics my science classes were too easy. The labs in freshmen and sophomore science were enjoyable, but I never got a sense of how they connected to other concepts in Biology and Chemistry.…
