Biblical Worldview Essay
A worldview is the way that people interpret the world around them and make decisions based on those interpretations. Worldviews can be developed from many various sources and as such, prominent worldviews have emerged. A theistic worldview is a worldview that follows the belief in one personal God (Gutierrez and Lew). In this critical thinking paper, we will compare and contrast the theistic worldviews of Islam and the Biblical worldview. In order to communicate the Christian gospel to people from a non-Christian worldview, we must first understand the components and beliefs of their worldview. There are five questions that each worldview should be able to answer. Once we get the answers to these questions we can compare with our Biblical worldview and begin effectively evangelizing.
The Question of Origin:
The Islamic worldview believes that there is only one God. It is considered offensive to believe in more than one God, “To associate a partner with God is to commit the sin of ishrak or blasphemy” (Halverson 2). Similarly, the Biblical worldview also believes in one personal God. In his novel Man & Islam Dr. Ali Shari’ati describes Allah’s creation of man, “Accordingly, in creating man, God did not use His ‘breath,’ ‘blood,’ or ‘flesh’; rather He blew His own soul into man” (4). Similarly to Islam, the Biblical worldview also follows the belief that man is created separately from animals. One difference between Islam and Christianity is that God created man as a reflection of Himself, “And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Gen. 1.27). Both Allah and God created man from dirt however Allah created man with His spirit while God created man in His own
