3 Breeds of Cute and Cuddly Cattle
There are over 800 breeds of cattle that are recognized worldwide to choose from, however, three breeds that would work well in any herd are Red Angus, Chianina, and Maine Anjou. The Red Angus breed is a British breed. Both Maine Anjou and Chianina breeds are continental breeds. These three breeds have exceptional characteristics which they pass on to their progeny. Marbling, muscling, calving ease, and low birth rates are just a few of the aspects that are good to look for in choosing beef cattle. Red Angus has many great traits to make them a viable seedstock choice. This particular breed is known for calving ease. Calving ease is when the birth of a calf does not require assistance and does not impose undue strain on the calf or dam. They also have low birthrates, which in turn also helps with the number of assisted births. Red Angus is a breed that grows very quickly, which helps ranchers make more profit since they keep the calves for less time. This breed also produces marbled meat which helps ranchers make more profit and buyers get better meat for the prices they pay.

Maine Anjou also has the highest marbling of all the continental

If any single animal could be said to represent of the state of Texas, that animal could only be the iconic Texas Longhorn. Saved from the brink of extinction, this hardy and resilient symbol of Texas, is a uniquely American breed of cattle, easily recognizable worldwide because of the prodigious horn length of the breed, used by the males to protect the herd. Left alone in the wild, the Texas Longhorn can live for twenty years or more, although if domesticated and raised for meat, that lifespan shortens to three to five years. Classified scientifically as Bos taurus, the Texas Longhorn, and all variants of Bos taurus, maintain a close evolutionary connection with Bos indicus, as the two species can breed and produce viable offspring. The Texas Longhorn produces a unique beef when compared and contrasted with other breeds of cattle. Dr. Stephen Bennett developed a new breed of cattle whose name matches the land of his birth, the land of the calypso – the Buffalypso. Through selective breeding he set out to reduce infections in water buffalo which were prone to tuberculosis. He found that the Indian water buffalo, which was introduced to Trinidad as a “beast of burden” to work on the sugar estates, was a tougher animal. It was less infected with this disease and so he chose these animals for his breeding programme. He soon realised that these animals were under-utilised and had potential as a beef breed. After many years of research he developed this superior breed, the Buffalypso (Bubalis bubalis), in the early 1960s.…
